Inventor David Shepard appears on a 1959 episode of "I've Got a Secret" with the secret "I invented a machine that read and writes." Mr. Shepard is considered to be the inventor of the first OCR (Optical Character Recognition) machine, though that term is not used here.
Henry Morgan, described as the fastest typist of the panel members, is asked to type continuously on a center-stage typewriter throughout the questioning period, at the end of which the paper he has typed is read by Mr. Shepard's invention, a product of the Farrington Manufacturing Company. Henry's typing is (apparently) reproduced perfectly by the reader/computer/flexiwriter combination.
This sequence is a good example of how IGAS often presented innovative technologies to a large viewing audience for the first time.
The program is hosted by Garry Moore; the other panelists are Bill Cullen, Betsy Palmer, and Bess Myerson.
