I bought mine after watching your first two videos. I've just been practicing the tricks in the video. It's insanely deep man. It's more unique than I thought.

Damn, it's so cool to know I made an impression! Congratulations on taking the leap, I'm sure it will empower you musically as it has for me. Yeah this machine truly is as deep as you want it to be, which is why I wanted to do videos on it. I could make a tutorial on a synth or a DAW, but I feel like this one just inspires so many alternative ways of thinking about music.

2 years on, what are your thoughts on this info and have you used banks more?
@KennyZhao
4 жыл бұрын
Good question! I often wonder about some of these earlier videos, if the information still holds up. In this case I think it mostly does. Banks really started to kick in this year for me. I realized that recreating the same setups for multiple projects was starting to really cut into productivity, so I started using banks for individual song ideas. I find it really useful to copy my favorite part (scenes+tracks+FX) over to previous banks, or to compare previous setups within the same project, and consolidate everything to my favorite version. This is way better than opening a project I started three months ago and not knowing how to play it (which happens a lot). As for the improvised sets I've been working on these last few weeks - it's a single pattern on a single bank, that I save every time I finish a set. So it's very much a destructive process. The way I'm using the audio pool - constantly swapping files within each slot - doesn't really work with the part system very well.

Hi Kenny! Thanks for the video. I changed my kick and tops to track 3 and 4 after watching this and I can unmute them with lefthand, very helpful insight! It makes me wonder why you dont put the effects scenes on buttons 13 to 16, helps my accessibility with righthand a lot :)
@KennyZhao

Hey! That is a great tip actually! I definitely put those tracks on the left so I could mute them with one hand. I guess I haven't quite gotten to the point where I switch between scenes that much, but I will definitely look into it. And thanks for watching!

I have a question: Can I set ( for example): Set track 1 to chromatic mode while track 2 is in slices mode, track 3 in slots etc. And having them stay that way? Because when I play in chromatic mode a synth I created, it affects all my tracks to be in chromatic mode and I don’t want that. Sorry for being so long.
@KennyZhao
6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don't believe you can - I've also wished for this feature. But I think they do that to keep the sequencer the default function of the Octatrack - you can't even save a project to have it open with one of those other modes.
@aidanvinum

Kenny Zhao That blowsssss. So best bet would be to: buy a separate synth? And use it Thru machine or ?
@KennyZhao
6 жыл бұрын
Well if you're looking to play slices you could get a MIDI controller and play the slices that way. Otherwise you kinda have to navigate to the desired setting to play the sequence trigs each time you load up the project.

I just got the OT for a couple of days and i dont know anything about it yet. I know how to sample and to lay out a beat woth it but is it possible to work in 8/4 or 16/4 instead of 4/4? Also i dont know yet how to sign chopped samples to trig mode
@KennyZhao
5 жыл бұрын
Yes I believe you can work in those modes, it should be within your sequencer which you can get to by hitting FUNC + PAGE (that button on the far right of the sequencer trigs) What do you mean by "assigning chopped samples to trig mode?" Are you trying to get the slices to be triggered in the sequencer? Or do you want to play them on the sequencer like a keyboard?
@Freddy_VHS

Kenny Zhao i want to know if i can play the chopped samples in different keys without the use of the pitch knob. Thanks for the fast response and nice tutorials! Love them
@KennyZhao
5 жыл бұрын
@@Freddy_VHS Yep, so if you press FUNC + down arrow, there should be a small menu popping up that has a few options. One of them is a chromatic keyboard which should do what you're looking for. When you navigate that I believe it defaults to whatever slice you have assigned to the machine

I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a quick fix to a solution, or something that fits into your setup out of the box. It takes a lot of time to get used to and incorporate. But if you do have the time it will definitely surprise you - which is one of my personal goals musically.

Hmm....I'm not entirely sure. In order to play the sample in the audio pool/browser, you have to hold "FUNC" and hit "YES." To open the active sample waveform window you should hit the "AED." But loading the sample itself should be as easy as hitting "YES" in the browser
@apocalypseplease19
5 жыл бұрын
@@KennyZhao when i push the AED button, it tells on the screen ''empty sample slot'' is it normal?
@KennyZhao
5 жыл бұрын
@@apocalypseplease19 Empty sample slot means you don't have any samples loaded into that track, which is why nothing plays when you press "PLAY." I'd recommend checking out the PDF of the manual for general operation help! www.elektron.se/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Ocatrack-MKII-Quick-Guide_ENG.pdf
