My qualification runs from Suceava, round 3 of our national drift championship. I was driving a friends RHD Skyline GTS-T (Thanks Ciuli !). Despite the weight and the stock power (250 hp) these things can really shift if driven hard they're are a pleasure to drift.
I took it easy all week-end in practice as it was not my car, it was freshly painted and it was explained to me in a friendly manner that if I scratched it it would be my ass. I should mention that I'm not good at going slow and safe so I have to say I was quite disappointed at most of my practice laps and the way the car behaved, it's just not rewarding and if I didn't put my heart into it they sucked. But hey, it's a smaller chance to hit the car in 3 laps than in 40 so I only drove it harder(er) in qualifications and battles. But by god did it come alive once you showed it the stick. Skylines rock :)
There was a big bump on the track in the middle transition section and it upset the soft suspension set up quite badly especially if you started pushing. I didn't have a big issue with this in my first qualification lap though as I was steady though the transition and didn't push too hard, I wanted to get a clean lap first. Which I did, 3/3 flags, good initiation, decent angle. It close to the best I could do as far as a safe-ish run goes so I figured I will push it harder for the second run.
Started off with full on manji attack and a very aggressive initiation, got the first flag kept on the gas and wanted to do a full speed transition in the middle unfortunately when going over the bump I swear I felt like something grabbed the back-end of the car and wanted to straighten it out then snapped into big angle. This is where I messed up and over-corrected but to be honest the suspension and the stance of the car were already upset and unbalanced too much, correcting it right was pretty much guess work at that point. I then of course spun in a cloud of smoke and got so pissed off at myself I forgot I had a third qualification run and just went to the paddock. I did use that run eventually after all the other drivers had finished to do a training battle-line lap as I didn't get to do a full-attack one till then.
All in all I was quite happy as I qualified 8th with my first lap. I know I could have done better but that's always the case with everybody so no point in any regrets.
PS : Thanks go to Audioclass for the second camera footage.
