We've been dying to see how your bees are doing in your new bee barns; it's disappointing we haven't gotten regular videos this season.

You've come a long way! I haven't seen your videos in quite a number of years but I do recall when you had bought your first hive - they've multiplied!!!! WOW!!

Good to see everything goes well! 😃 Have you thought about putting multiple sensors in one bee barn just to see how warm the bees actually keeps the hive? A sensor in each corner and one in the middle? I was thinking about doing it, but there’s no more time to do it this season.

Etienne Tardif has already done that better than I ever could! After two winters in this configuration, I kind of know what's going to happen! Ha ha. Hive temp is no longer really a concern. I'm just trying to figure out how to make this even easier for me. There are still some minor headaches I need to smooth out.

@@vinofarm I’ve seen Etienne’s work, very impressive. So the bee barn project isn’t complete, interesting! 😃😃 To me there’s only one “problem” and that is the lid-situation. I was thinking about building a version that had high shoulders. That means that the 2” styrofoam which is the outer layer goes higher up than the top of the brood box (hope you understand). This means that there’s no cold bridges or gaps at the top where the lid meet the brood box and there’s lots of space above the frames to insulate.

I thought your bee barns had wooden sides, I will have to go back and see when and why you added what looks like to be exterior insulation and painted.

Hello from California to all. I’ve had 2 batches of bees in the past that have absconded. I now have bees that came back all on their own. I’ve opened the hive twice since they’ve been back. I know there’s honey in there so I’m kind of leaving them be. I’m hoping they will be here in the spring. Happy returns to all!

Please show and measure your entrances. And the mouse guards. It seems to be the area i am least understanding.

I went to pull honey supers and found the queen on top of the excluder somehow... so we have a medium of brood to hopefully hatch out before its too cold 😂

Vino weclome to shorts. As a creator you will love them.

I like shorts. They're super easy to shoot and upload. But they're very hollow and don't really add much to the channel. I look at them as just little postcards to my subscribers. Kind of how I used to view Instagram posts. There's also no money in them, but they're easy, so why not? Full length videos are WAY more satisfying, but they've become a huge time commitment that I just don't have right now.

If there are no mics in any of your hives or very low, why are you putting apravar strips in there?
@vinofarm

Because why not? Why do you pay for car insurance? Why do you wear a seat belt?

@@vinofarm thank you so much for your reply! I'm in Washington state even when people treat their bees they die over the winter here. I'm just wondering if the design of your hives gives them a better chance to survive with varroa mites. My friend Gene at "enjoy beekeeping" in Georgia insulates his hives and is treatment free and doesn't lose very many hives over the winter either. He uses layens and lazutan hives.

@@cascades500 My hive design might very well be helping the bees survive mites. Or maybe not. I can't really be sure. However, a few Apivar strips is cheap insurance and a nice backup for the bees to clean up whatever mites are in there. I do NOT subscribe to "treatment free" methods. Losing "not very many" hives over winter sounds like failure to me. I have not lost any in two winters and I believe this winter will make it three. The goal is 100% survival. So far, it's working.
