The primary goal of the October Monthly Meeting was to amplify the voices of women and girls from conflict-affected and occupied regions, addressing the urgent need for their meaningful participation in discussions on conflict and peacebuilding. This is particularly critical as the Women's, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda has often been criticized for merely lip service rather than a tool for real change. As the MENA region is considered a microcosm of broader global patterns, focusing on women's lived experiences in these contexts is essential.
This event offered a unique platform for women from diverse contexts and generations to express their voices and share their experiences, needs, and aspirations amidst the ongoing conflicts in their countries. We aim to challenge the narrative that frames women in conflict zones merely as resilient victims. Instead, we will highlight their roles as agents of resistance, active engagement, and change-making. We also explored the potential to move beyond rhetoric toward substantive action.
