My first job in the early 80's as an Engineering Technician for a manufacturing company, they gave us Smocks to wear in the shop with a pocket for our 0-1 Micrometer and another for our requisite pocket protector and 6 inch rule. Ah the good old days!

Keith, it was good to see you in person again at Arnfest. I came away from the swap meet with a circa 1940s 17" Porter Cable D1 Syracuse disc sander. Beautiful machine with the cast stand it came on. I bought several Norton surface grinding stones new from the gentleman you bought all that Martin-Marrieta areospace measuring equipment from. At the banquet I had the winning bid for a beautifully restored Delta tool grinder with stand and with new stones, LED lighting and reproduced metal labels and new or replated fasteners. It's better than new. See you at Arnfest 2024. Your Patreon subscriber - Carl

Keith was being modest not mentioning that here in the States his name is one of a two part process of moving machinery across the country. When you ask somebody to pick something up and hold it for you until you can get there or arrange a ride for it, it's called a "Potter." This was named after Joe Potter, an OWWM member who would travel the country once or twice a year picking up things people were holding for him. The second part, the actual moving of a machine either part of or its entire journey, is named a "Rucker." This was named after Keith Rucker as people observed his keen ability to get machinery moved across the country using a network of friends. Occasionally, I'll see the terms escape the domain of old machinery and it brings a smile knowing I lived in a time that people will look back one day and wonder 'Why do they call it a Rucker/Potter?'

The shop coat was my favorite among all of the items. In the way back when I worked as an engineer these were issued by the stockroom. If i went out to the shop, I wore one. Kept my white shirt and tie clean. i had to go to the closet and dig through the garment bags to see if I still had one. I'll be wearing it tomorrow when i go out to my shop. Thanks for another interesting video.

When I saw the big wrenches, it took a second to notice your (relatively) tiny hands next to them. Then you showed us the (actually) tiny cat tools. It would be fun to see both sets together! And that Ingersoll coat IS cool! I immediately got put in mind of dozens of old manuals and brochures from back in my Dad's time.

I like the viewer mail videos. It's a way to see what's out there. I have never come across a caliper depth base, now I have one ordered. For me the depth feature is one of the most used features on a set of calipers and has always been fiddly, this will make the feature infinitely more useful.

My son worked for Ingersol Milling Machine Company up until they had to downsize due to the economy dictated the lack of need for new machines. I got to visit the company and saw a Huge rotary table milling machine and a Linear Motor machine for making spars for large aircraft. Also a secret machine for the Navy which is probably not secret anymore but probably still in use.

The new blue color Norton surface grinding wheel may be a Norton SG ceramic wheel. For a lot of different types of grinding can be a lot better than a aluminum oxide wheel . If it is it's a great find and an a very expensive wheel.

Haha if you don't like odds and ends videos don't watch them, the clue is in the titles. I used to sigh everytime one came up as a chore to get through, after a little while I released I'm always glad part way through that I did. I can spot a reamer a mile off now and had no idea there were other ways to precisely "lap" holes.
