Audio of the Conference
Lacan in the United States (you will hear for the first time Lacan speaking in English)
This is the lecture Lacan gives at John Hopkins University on 20 October 1966. It is not the first time he has visited and lectured in the United States, he had already been there in March of the same year, where he gave six lectures which are now known to be untraceable, unless his heirs have the notes of that first visit.
As far as I know, this is the first time that the audio of Lacan's lecture in Baltimore has been found on youtube or on networks. You will hear, for the first time possibly, Lacan speaking in English. It is very nice to hear between minute 5:40 and 6:40 Lacan laughing at the anecdote of when he had the desk moved so that he could correct his lecture the night before. Here we hear a playful and smiling Lacan, speaking - as best he can - in English.
The photography in the video, also unpublished until 2018 (thanks to Paul de Man's archives), is very interesting: Shoshana Felman and Barbara Johnson who, together with Sherry Turkl, are three of the most interesting Lacanians and unknown to many, at least in Latin America. Lacan's influence comes back to France and Latin America from these women.
