The water will boil much quicker with a lid on it. Important on battery power!

My ideal 2 ring off-grid induction cooker would have one "normal" or ~1500 watt ring and one much lower for simmering. Some two ring setups allow for this with a design that steals power from a ring on full from the second ring - I saw US designs that were designed to live within a limited US outlet power budget but at 120vac of coutse.

I’ve got the single one, love it, great for cooking outside when it’s windy , your right about using large pans on it, can be awkward.

Safer than gas but to much worry in the UK regarding recharge. Still cooking on my log burner while im drying my hand washing. I think along the lines of what functions most when in use. Induction hob only cooks.

I'm playing with the idea of heating with a secured camping sized wood stove with a removable chimney (3" thick)! We've heated our home this way for decades.

From early April to late September 600w of solar in southern UK is sufficient to run the whole boat. We need about 10% from the alternator occasionally early Spring or late Autumn. In winter we will be on shore power, but have sufficent battery capacity to go a couple of days off grid.

Curious to know how the cooker adjusts the power usage based on the pan size, I expected the electro magnets maintain consistent power levels all through

Seems to varying opinions on why this is. Some discussion here. www.quora.com/Will-an-induction-cooker-use-less-power-if-my-pan-area-is-less-than-the-area-of-the-cooktop-ie-it-doesnt-cover-the-whole-coil-area And GE say this: “A smaller pot on larger burner generates less power. For example, if you are using an 8” pan on an 11” burner, it will not output its full power to the pan on high, and it will take longer to boil water. When measuring for the pan diameter, it is important to measure the flat, magnetic area of the bottom of the pan. Pans that are not completely magnetic (ferrous metal) on the bottom often lead to confusion. The biggest culprit of this confusion are pans that only have a small area of ferrous (magnetic) material on the bottom of the pan. For example, an 11” fry pan from a cookware manufacturer may only have an area of 7.25" that is magnetic. The induction element may not activate if the cookware is too small.” products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=17368

lol the only reason why the frying pan was under 600 was because it was too wide for the induction hob

Would love to understand the theory around this - can you explain? For the large pan and the frying pan there is "Pan Base" above the entire induction hob - I can understand why the frying pan wouldn't use more power as heat is only generated above the induction coil, but why does it use less?

A better test video from an aussie overlander exists. The test is of a kettle with 1 litre of water, it is up against a plug in kettle. The result is induction wins big, half the energy consumed.

Interestingly we have a video on our production list to compare the efficiency of Elec Kettle, Elec Induction, Coffee Machine and Microwave as heating sources. So suspect we may find similar. But we'll see!
