I did, and on my first trip to Mexico in 2003! All the way from Cancún to Tuxtla Gutiérrez and back (the mother of my partner at the time, a structural engineer, was working on the electrical dam of the Sumidero canyon). Saw many fantastic things along the way - Palenque, Yaxchilán, Misol-Ha, Agua Azul, villages around San Cris. one of my best world travelling experiences so far was being a guest of the Lacandon, in the selva Lacandona, staying in a jungle hut by a river with giant fireflies... a local lady took us for a long trek in her selva showing us medicinal plants, birds, monkeys, tapir tracks, amazing falls and partly excavated maya ruins. I hope you get to visit them as well, I think you would very much enjoy the experience! 🤔🤗 🌴 🇲🇽

I am so happy to have found you. My two waterproof swiss army backpacks are in Mexico waiting to go on those trips. I just returned to the U.S. from my third 4.5 month trip. I will be using your information to help my trips. I will be following in your footsteps.

I have the chance to visit most of the south of Mexico and my favorite state is Chiapas. There is so much natural beauty, arqueológica sites and the food is great too. San Cristobal is my favorite place.

Cant wait to hear your thoughts on San Cris. We have our too 6 list of possible retirement cities in Mexico and not seeing any yet in person, San Cris is the one I’m guessing we end up in long term. Great video !

Yes, speak in both Spanish and English. Good for you and for viewers like me :) I have only visited Yucatan a few times, and my flights were from Cancun. It's a good bus ride to Merida.

Hey Alex! I visited Chiapas (practically all of it) back in 2018, and also went horseback riding up to Chamula. In the church, I actually saw a chicken being sacrificed. Also another peculiarity: the statue of Jesus is not in the center but on the right-hand side if my memory serves me right (Saint John's is in the centre). I took it that the various saints stand for Mayan deities based on their vestments. In Tuxtla, did you get to spend an evening in Plaza de la Marimba? It is the liveliest spot in an otherwise not exactly pretty city.

Thanks for watching, Mario! Sounds like you had a memorable experience in Chiapas :) When I was in Tuxtla, I didn't see much of the city if I'm being honest. I was pretty busy with conference stuff!

Hi, I travel mexico and Guatemala for 4.5 months a year, for three years completed now, and more before then . I have been to Chiapas twice and walked through the Talisman border twice. I am very interested in doing a lot of backpacking in Chiapas including Tacana volcano. I will be concentrating my trips more in Chiapas and other green places such as Cuetzalan, Puebla. I am looking for small tiny mountain villages and places of high elevation with fresh air. I am sure that I will be living almost full time in a place like that ,in about 15 years. And my trips will start increasing in length between now and then. You are what I was looking for, for information. Gracias
