At approximately 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2024, South Patrol officers were dispatched to a robbery at a business in the 6400 block of McCart Avenue in South Fort Worth. This business is a 24-hour vape shop. The call details stated that a black male in a face mask, armed with a crowbar, had broken glass and stolen several items.
Officers arrived on scene three minutes later. When officers located the suspect, he fled on foot through an open field behind the shopping center.
Officers located the suspect hiding in a residential backyard in the 3200 block of Fargo Court. An officer fired one shot and struck the suspect in the leg. Officers immediately provided life-saving aid. There are no other suspects outstanding.
Suspect was taken to an area hospital where he is in stable condition. The suspect is 37-years-old.
No one was injured inside the business.
This is an ongoing investigation.
Investigators from the Fort Worth Police Department Major Case Unit, Internal Affairs, and the Tarrant County District Attorney’s office responded to the scene and will conduct a thorough investigation of this incident.
The officer has been placed on Significant Event Leave, which is standard practice in these circumstances.
