Superb ! With Nice Introduction ! Eppo Varuvaro- Adi Talam Gopalakrishna Bharathi Krithi This Song is Sung in Ragam Jonpuri 20th Mela janyam , Shenchurutti etc The yearning of Madurai Mani Iyer or Madhura (sweet) Mani Iyes favourite and one of his most embellished Tukkada piece Eppo Varuvaro by Gopalakrishna Bharathiyar..It is said that one of his Concerts at Mylapore MMI Mama stopped for an Interval in between to start another song. The Crowd was inpatient and startrd to Shour “Eppa Varuvaro…..” He immedeately sai Ippa Varuvar and started Singing this song to the Cheering of the Crowd. This song is full of pathos expressing human frailty and the yearning to reach godhead. Here the composer yearns for his Lord The King Of Chidambaram..He questions as to When Lord Shiva would liberate him from the worldly attachments..? After having acquired the right age and having searched the Lord Here and there he sees him in his imagination.the composer then feels that he has wasted his life in Material Attachments and he is waiting to reach to Golden Feet of PONNAMBALAVAANAN..!! gopalahrishna Bharathi was He was an ardent devotee of Lord Nataraja at Chidambaram and wrote many songs on Lord Nataraja. He composed operas on NandanAr, Thiruneelakanta nAyanAr, and iyaRpagai nAyanAr, three of the supreme devotees of Lord Shiva. The upper caste folks, while holding the reign of temple services, denied temple entry privileges to the “untouchables”. GKB resented that approach and reflected that situation in his musical opera NandanAr carittirak keerththanai (songs depicting the life history of nandanAr). The composer (GKB) says that while he was immersed in the fleeting and ephemeral pleasures of worldly life, he forgot or failed to see the golden, compassionate refuge at the feet of the Lord of the golden theater. P eppOvaruvArO-enthan kalithIra-eppOvaruvArO When will he arrive to alleviate my distress? AP appar mudal mUvarum ALuDai aDigaLum seppiya tillai cidambara dEvan The lord, whom the three great devotees appar, sambhandar, sundarar, and also MANikkavAcagar (ALuDai aDigaL) extolled in their songs, when will he come? C1 n-aRparuvam van-thu n-Athanaith thEdum kaRpanaikaL muRRak kAtchi than-thAn I am coming of age and searching for the lord. I have imagined a lot about him. When will it be realized so that the lord will give me his vision and rule over me? C2 aRpasuka vAzvil Anan-tham koNdEn poRpathaththaik kaaNEn ponnampalavANan So far I have indulged in life’s little pleasures. I have not sought the golden feet of the lord When will He grace me? C3 bAlakirushNan pORRip paNin-thidumIsan mElE kAthal koNdEn veLippadakkANEn I fell in love with the lord extolled by BalakrishNan (also known as gOpalakrishnNan). I have not seen his vision yet. Note :- The poet then concludes that he has fallen in love with the Lord that he wroships and bows down to, but that Lord is yet to openly acknowledge it or reciprocate it.
