Don’t blame yourself, golden retrievers are exceptional dogs. Whenever my daughter would go swimming in the pool when she was three years old the dog would jump in the pool and grab her by the arm and get her out of the pool. Golden retrievers if you’re ever gonna get a dog are the most loving kind, selfless, sentient creatures I have ever seen in my life. I had one we had a pool and when my daughter would go swimming at a very young age 3 years old, even though I was in the pool with her, if she went towards the deep end, every single time, my dog would jump in the pool, grab her by the arm and take her to the shallow end of the pool all the way to the very end and wouldn’t let her go. They more interested in bragging about their high price front beach houses and fancy cars that got washed away. Amount of gov' emergency money to help rebuild their homes year after year is crazy. The end result was over $10,000 in property stolen over a couple day period. This is what we Caribbean’s have to deal with every year with hurricanes. And our personal and government resources are mostly spent reconstructing afterwards. We learned 100 years ago to build everything with concrete: houses, buildings, roofs, you name it, everything in concrete. Even poor people have at least walls in concrete. We also learned to check how water drains after intense rainfall, to avoid constructing were water pools. When we have an imminent hurricane forecast, people living in danger places move to shelters. We listen to officials, and there’s not much rescue needed afterward. Watching these news makes my head shake. 😱

Please don’t forget about all the survivors of disasters after the news cycle moves on in a few days. They will be living in tents and trailers for years trying to rebuild their lives. Fire. Flood. Earthquake. Whatever it is, it can happen to anyone. There but for the Grace of God go you or I. Instead of criticizing them for living somewhere that had never in their entire lives had anything like this happen and smugly thinking they somehow should have known better, be a better person and do something, any little thing, to help. And remember, those who didn’t evacuate are not usually unwilling or unwise, they are unable. We all need to do better for our most vulnerable elderly, disabled, and poor. Respectfully submitted.

Only costed us tax payers 33,000 to save a man in a Hurricane on the ocean when he should have been on land in a safe place. like the other smart people. The expenses for launching a U.S. Coast Guard response boat for an average search pattern amount to $5,000, while deploying a helicopter costs $33,000. It's crucial to note that during search and rescue operations, the Coast Guard doesn't impose charges on members of the public requiring assistance

This hurricane is horrible. Thanks to the efforts of all the first responders. I am so sorry for the people who’s lives, homes and businesses were devastated by Helene. This hurricane was rapidly intensified by the very warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico, greatly increasing the wind, rainfall and storm surge. Unfortunately, with markedly increased atmospheric CO2 levels from burning fossil fuels trapping more heat, global land and ocean temperatures will continue to increase. Yet Trump and/or Project 2025 propose to: 1) ignore climate change; 2) increase drilling for and burning fossil fuel; 3) defund energy conservation and green energy efforts; 4) eliminate the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and their reporting on air and ocean temperatures; 5) put weather forecasts behind a paywall, 6) shift responsibility and costs of preparing and responding to disasters from The Federal Management Agency (FEMA) to state and local governments; and 7) to end and replace the National Flood Insurance Program with (more expensive) private insurance. See Pages 135, 153, 154 and 754 of Project 2025 (Mandate for Leadership). Given the devastating effect of climate change, including massive storms, we need to address Climate change, not ignore it and make it worse like Trump and his supporters Project 2025 propose to do. I am so sorry for those that have been harmed.

Don't forget the follow-up story at the outrage these folks suffer at the hands of Ron DeSantis's policies in regards to the homeowners insurance crisis that adds insult to the injury here in Florida. Reference Ian and Debbie.

My heart breaks for our citizens living the consequences of Hurricane Helene. Just like the current government has billions to provide to the No tax payers trespassers to come up with the funds to provide our citizens with the same funds and help them in the aftermath of this hurricane . It will be a shame that the government could not be able to relocate the vi times and provide them with housing food health benefits and pensions until things get back to normal.

Second post... biblical times when people stayed in the path of a destructive storm or weather it's because they had to... because they didn't know the impending danger Today we basically have the power of prophecy for telling impending danger before it strikes It is wiser to leave and be safe and come back to find the rubble of your home Then to stay and be under the rubble when rescue come by When you can. Leave leave .. But to purposely , stay behind after professionals told you to leave and now you need To be rescued because of your stupidity and selfishness It takes resources away from those that really couldn't leave cause you're selfish view has to be rescued ...really sad It's one thing if you really couldn't leave. But most people choose to stay out of selfishness ...
