I still think it will end up being one, he didn't have his notes infront of him, so the timeline in his head may not be right. Maybe an EX skybreaker, or something. The skybreakery aspect seems too on the nose to not be a thing. I'm totally open to being wrong, but I really feel it's gonna be one.

What I got from that part of the stream was that he was saying that as far as we were up to in Stormlight it's only Hoid, but that may change in Stormlight 5. It seemed he was trying to edge around the question as if this were a Sky breaker it would give away stormlight 5 stuff. I think he was intentionally cagey and said no because that would be impossible with everything we knew in stormlight 5, but after stormlight 5 is out he'll confirm that it was a sky breaker. That's what I got from it at least. It just is tricky for him to juggle with the most metal taking place after stormlight 5
@cwbuxton
Жыл бұрын
Brandon's exact answer was this.... Ah, hehehehehe. So, we'll just leave that one. So, how about this. At this point in continuity, a Skybreaker could not easily get off of Roshar. In fact, by this point in continuity, I believe (you can't hold me to this one too much) the only Radiant who's managed to get off of Roshar and maintain powers is Hoid. I believe that's the case. So to me this is him pretty much confirming that this is a skybreaker, but acknowledging that that doesn't work with the current situation on Roshar, we're we are up to in the books. But this seems to indicate that after stormlight 5 people are able to get their spren off world

The Jasnah thing that's worth noting is that from Kelsier's perspective she's a member of a noble class that deeply oppresses and mistreats the underclass. Which just so happens to be a category of people he's not a fan of. Beyond that, she's the daughter of a man he has personally interacted with (via Seon-in-Trenchcoat, but still) and thus knows is generally a jerkass.

The other side such a simultaneous rejection wasn't realistically possible and likely happened over months or years and thus Dalinars vision had to be a metaphor. It was David and Shannon arguing each side and I couldn't choose which one was best. Ian pointed out that a blade when summoned would leave the cognitive realm and therefore, as long as the blades were summoned (which was permanent until the jemstones were created hundreds of years later allowed wielders to send the blade back and forth from Shadesmar), there wouldn't have been deadeyes. For example, in the Philippines, we have a region called Visayas, which is the Hispanicized spelling of Bisayas, which came from the word Bisaya, which was what we call ourselves and our collective languages in the region. I think it’s a little unfair to extrapolate “Shai’s stupid now” from Wayne being able to feel something is off about her. That’s like saying someone is incompetent because they can’t hide a bias in a story from Jasnah, or because they can’t win a spear duel against Kaladin. Wayne feeling Shai is hiding something speaks more of his skills as a reader of people than it does of her lack of skill at acting. We’re talking about a man who managed to pick out the most experienced kandra _ever_ just based on her accent. Bleeder, with almost a thousand years of experience, couldn’t get past Wayne’s perception. Judging Shai for failing at that same test is really unfair
@diepie5144

20:05 for the universal soul stamps, it seems like Shai just realized that if she made the stamps extremely vague (i.e. "someone decided there should be a door here" instead of, "the architect thought that it would make sense to include a door on the back of the building for easy access during busy times, not realizing that it's unneeded so the door went unused for years), they can be used on almost any object. However, the stamps don't hold (in part) because they're so vague. 1:02:45 I just want to see the Ghostbloods calling up a favor on governor Marasi, or her working with them in some capacity.
@nimander5483
Жыл бұрын
I don't think it is being vague that does it. I think Shai more likely realized that a lot of characteristics are shared between different objects, meaning that as long as her forgery is focused on the most important aspects needed by the soul stamp she can use it on anything that has the required characteristics. Going to the Selish magic is similar to programming, this would be the concept of "Generics" from Programming where you can use the same function on different objects as long as they have certain things in common.

Sha-eye the Elantrian: Shai must know more of Elantrians than storybooks since Kaise's brother is one and Kaise's cousin-in-law is the king over Elantris and all of Arelon. Since Kaise is clearly younger than Shai, I think that Emperor's Soul might have occurred before the Reod. Perhaps the Old Elantrians played up their godliness to strangers even though they definitely knew there were higher beings than themselves where Sha-eye modeled herself after the Old Elantrians.

In regards to Jessie's comment about the expansion of the cosmere fracturing reading order, I think opposite is going to happen. I think by the time the cosmere is done/near done that publication order will be king. You just can't read the entirety of mistborn by itself without being a little confused. Going from elantris 1 to elantris 2 will probably be so jarring it won't be capable. This is probably going to become a major complaint of the comsere from outsiders in the future
@unseenasymptote4976
4 ай бұрын
I don’t think it’ll be pure publication order. Yes, reading Mistborn Era 3 may be confusing if you haven’t read Stormlight (possibly, we don’t know yet obviously) but there’s no reason someone needs to alternate between Stormlight and Mistborn Era 2 books. If Warbreaker gets a sequel it probably won’t be too Cosmere connected. And already Warbreaker can be read in a lot of places. People likely won’t be able to read straight through the Mistborn series, and Elantris might be in the same boat (though some things Brandon has said about Elantris 2 indicate it’ll only be about 10 years after the first book, but idk how current that is.) But still, I think we’ll have a lot of different modified-publication orders that people argue for and that there will still be a lot of flexibility

Regarding Shai's universal soulstamps: Forgery feels like the middle ground between an art, a science and a programming language, given how logical and believable the stamp must be in order to work correctly. So far, Shai (and i assume every other Forger out there) has been creating specific soulstamps for specific subjects, making them the more believable (since they last indefinetly) but also less general (they only work in the objetc they were created for). But what if she created a soultstamp that infuses vague and general characteristics into the objetcs ? vague enough for it to be believable in any object (with it's limitation, it's mentioned in TLM that the wall must be of a certain width for the stamp to work), but so general it only lasts for a few minutes instead. Following the analogy with science and progamming, it would be similar to how a mathematician can take a set of expression and ecuations and describe one only general ecuation that works for all of them.

I don't think the flying guys on the dock are Skybreakers or Ghostbloods. I think they are allomancers from the cavern, possibly even full blown mistborn. The main reason being the one guy says something along the lines of "your sister sent us." Who has Marasi had contact with to be able to send somewhere? Yeah she's gallivanting around with a couple Ghostbloods but those are the only ones she is in contact with. She hasn't met any Skybreakers to send anywhere. I suppose Kelsier could have sent them and told them to say that but it seems thin to me. If he had such people on speed dial, why not send them with Marasi? But they do show up shortly after Marasi contacts and convinces all the allomancers in the cavern community. Makes sense to me that if she found a group of coinshots or mistborn that wanted to help in some way, she would have sent them to her sister especially since they are the ones that could get there the quickest. Send a few flyboys to Ellendel, keep everyone else to help herself. It also makes sense to me that people who just got out of a rather sheltered and structured environment and are now in a whole new world under a government they know nothing about might question the legality of what they have been asked to do.

Coriander Court: India has always been known for their spices, so it would make sense that Sanderson would spice up TwinSoul's world with such references. I have a theory about the other names TwinSoul mentions in his speech: What if the way the Aethers work is each Aetherbound is aligned with one of the twelve, but also sort-of aligned with two others. Think of how the Radiant magic system works--where you can imagine a circle divided into 10 pieces, representing the 10 surges. In between each piece is one of the orders, who uses both the surges to their "left" and "right" so to speak. It could be that the Aether system works very similarly. TwinSoul is connected directly to Silajana, but might also draw on a bit of power from the two Aethers that are on the left and right of Silajana. Just an idea I had.

I just presumed that that was the thing powering her state as "permanent" elantrian and allowing her to use the Dor. From what I understood of the scene, the stamp with the purified Dor allowed the transformation to happened, but then the glow started to fade until she drew the map. So my guess is that the constant connection to Sel and the Dor allows her to have a stable and permanent transformation. If you break the connection then she should eventually revert back to her normal state.

One theory I have about TwinSoul is that his culture will be Indian-inspired. Prisanva sounds quite reminiscent to Hindu etymology, and a lot of his mannerisms (namely, his attention to manners and love of tea) seem very similar. 1:10:58 On the Coriander Court, I kind of substituted "cardamom" for "coriander" in the moment, as cardamom is actually a very common spice in much of Indian cuisine. As for coriander, it was used in India, but it was never that historically significant. So I'm rather at a loss for how to interpret it.

Silajana, the name of TwinSoul's Aether, means "mountain-born" in Sanskrit. That would be an appropriate name for an Aether that generates stone and mineral.

16:30 the system's gas giants do have moons. Educated Scadrians must know the concept. 20:30 If this is really programming, she has introduced variables 23:30 For all we know her Wbeing an Elantrian is continously reapplying the mark by virtue of the Dor flowing through her and it 39:30 Doing as Navani did, but with the rhythm of Adonalsium? 1:15:00 Would Aethers have a spoken language? 1:49:30 They'd be using something else than Stormlight, hence no glow. 1:52:00 If they work for Odium they can work for Kelsier 1:53:00 Something horrible has happened on Roshar. People are fleeing. So Highspren are also fleeing. 2:03:00 Kelsier considers Roshar a lost cause. It does not matter what they think if they are all doomed. 2:05:00 Kelsier does nothing Jasnah in his place wouldn't do.

For the first point, we gotta remember that Shai didn’t bother learning to speak “Scadrian” (“Basian”?) but instead is using connection to trick Marasi into thinking she’s speaking it. If Shai uses the “Selish” word for “Moon” there’s a good chance Marasi just gets a weird sound that means nothing to her. It’d depend on whether Shai’s native language considers moon “a heavy enough astral body to mostly gravitationally collapse into a sphere that orbits another bigger astral body” or if it just considers moon “that other light in the sky that mostly comes out at night.” If it’s the second, Marasi shouldn’t understand the word.

re: Marasi, circa 1:05 or thereabouts: I would note that Pulsers dilate time. We've seen what happens with a duralumin-boosted Slow bubble, albeit one with an abnormally high level of bendalloy behind it. Who's to say, in Era 3 or perhaps sooner, that Marasi could not replicate the same trick?

It has been my working assumption that time passes at different rates on different planets in the Cosmere (just like IRL but probably more dramatically so). Coupled with the spatial contraction of the Cognitive Realm and the way that Relativity works (which will matter more in future eras), things will get wonky. But of greatest relevance right now is the fact that I took it as granted that characters will be aging at different rates depending on their locations at any given point in their own stories. I definitely think that we have to keep this possibility in mind at all points when comparing timelines. However, I also think that Stormlight era 1 is approximately at the same time as Mistborn era 2, with the time jumps possibly making them switch back and forth in the matter of which story is the most futureward with respect to publication order. Of course, if the aging rates are wildly different between Scadrial and Roshar, then it is also possible that, despite their being lightlike or spacelike connected so as to be 'simultaneous' in each of their frames, all of the events of multiple books in the one series are contained in a small amount of experienced time during or near a single book in the other series.

Something I'd love in these more Cosmere aware character episodes especially when we look back at older books is if you wonderful people could give a short refhresher on the previously seen character (really just the jist).

@@17thShard I don't think I would suggest it if you wouldn't. It's just that (very understandably) a more esoteric character for you is often on a different scale. Has anyone asked... When Nivarni (audiobook only apologies for spelling) was making anti-void light, she severed its connection to the pure tone of Roshar by putting it in a vacuum chamber. Is that maybe how things are going to get off world? Scale up a vacuum chamber, put someone in it, give them an air supply, seal it up, transport it off world?

There’s a WoB on the time dilation effect. Something about how large amounts of investiture would dilate time, but only if they are in the cognitive (as opposed to spiritual) realm. The investiture on Sel is all stuck in the cognitive following the splintering of devotion and dominion. So presumably that explains why time is moving more slowly on Sel than rest of Cosmere.

My Ghostblood codename would be Story. I intended for my username to be shortenable to "Spren" in places where there aren't other people with spren usernames (I've only ever seen one other spren username, Sapphic Spren, in the comments/chat here) but in one friend group it's been shortened to Story sometimes so I guess that would be it.
