Laute to the party, but here's a german translation for you subtitles :) Izzy: Wenn ich's nicht besser wüsste, würde ich sagen, dass er irgendwie von diesem Schwachmaten verführt wurde Stede: Haha! Na, einigen wir uns auf ein Unentschieden? Ed: Niemals! Stede: Uh! Mistkerl! Stede: Nein! Ed: So ist das Leben nunmal… Handle, oder stirb. Stede: Nein! Ed: Eins… Zwei… Drei… Komm doch her, du Hund! -Stabstabstab- Ed: Hehehe Stede: Bist du jetzt zufrieden? Stede: Was? Bereit? Und… Los. -beide stöhnen- Stede: Oh Gott! Ed: Vorsichtig ziehen. Ganz vorsichtig ziehen. Vorsichtig ziehen. Mehr! -beide stöhnen- Izzy: Ohhhh mein Gott! Oh mein Gott. Oh mein Gott. -Ed & Stede stöhnen im Hintergrund-

@vincentbriggs1780
@Tara Allen Nope, they wouldn't have worn anything like that! Ed's costume was inspired by The Road Warrior (1981) and the only thing 18th century about it is the fall front closure and waistband. It's much more of a late 18th century closure, but that's understandable considering how weird early 18th century breeches fly closures look to a modern audience. (There's one in my 1730's getting dressed video if you want an example!) I have seen a few leather hunting jackets from around that era, and leather breeches were quite popular later in the century, but they look completely different and are typically soft and matte and a very light brown colour. Not at all like black shiny modern leather. Either way, it's completely impractical to wear in a hot place surrounded by salt water. The crop top and the t-shirts half the crew wears are also very modern, but there are a few pretty good historical garments mixed in, like Lucius's pants and most of Pete's outfit. Most of Stede's shirts are pretty decent for 18th century, though not 100% (The little buttons on the slit down the front of the shirt wouldn't have been there, and the cuff buttons would be different, etc). He also has some pretty darn good suits, like the brown satin 1740's one from the beginning of episode 7, and the pinkish linen 1760's one from episode 8 with the lovely death's head buttons, which also came the closest to having decent neckwear. The party suit was by far the weirdest and least historical, and the white episode 3 suit and the blue episode 1 suit were also very weird and inaccurate in terms of cut. This is probably much too long of a reply, but overall the costumes are all over the place in both historical-ness and decade, but for the most part I think it works and I love it!

I think the show does an amazing job storytelling with silhouettes, details, and color in the garments, but its also fun to hear about the technical bits of the outfits. JENKINS: It's a bit of a Three's Company beat when [Izzy's] hearing it. But the scene was intended to be essentially like a love scene. I mean, one person is penetrating another with an object, and it's a cathartic release and incredibly taboo for both of them. So, in a way, it's a stand-in for a proper sex scene - or a making love scene, probably more accurately. Yeah, and then, to do it metaphorically, but then to actually be literal about it, too, is important.

1:32 I think they might be intentionally implying that Ed initially thought the heart (despite being also on the left side and as vulnerable as any organs) is not an “important” organ like if you got stabbed elsewhere you die painfully and slow, but if you got stabbed in the heart, you die instantly and it doesn’t matter cuz it’s a considerably peaceful way to go as a pirate. Ed let Stede stab him on the left side is in parallel to Ed letting Stede into his life because he thought it was ok to do so, because he didn’t consider being heart broken would be like being killed painfully and slowly on the inside, that makes him just wanna “let go”, and feels like “hanging on a thread”, and “life’s a hard sad death, and then you’re deaaaaaad”
