At Barber, that's more common than you would think. Not long ago, a deer ran out during one of the MotoA events. I think it was just a practice, but still... Anyway, they do have high fences, but somehow some deer get through. You'd think 100+dB exhaust sounds would deter them.

I frequent road america and theres so many chipmunks living under the walls on track lol they dont care if the tracks live they still run around like normal like 2 ft from an imsa prototype doing 180 mph lol like are you insane lil dudes? But then im like, ya know, if i was a chipmunk and could live anywhere, id probably pick the same exact spot lol best seats in the house! 😂

I remember reading years ago ('80's) about a woman ( probably from California) that moved to Pennsylvania and was mortified that people actually hunted deer. Over the next few years she saw and heard of deer / car collisions, but wasn't till she hit a deer and it came thru her windshield and put her in the hospital that she connected the dots. Then she went around urging hunters to "kill them all !". ☆

I rolled through a bit of a valley, on a nice bit of asphalt @ about 90-95 mph. Behind me less than an 1/8 mile, a buddy was going a tad slower at about 75-80, when an adult doe ran across (where I’d just blown through) and got center punched, by my buddy. Luckily he held it, and came to a safe stop, covered in coolant and deer guts, along with a few ticks. 😱😜🤙💪

I hit a pheasant in my 210 National kart at Cadwell Park back in the 70s. It sort of exploded judging by all the feathers and stuff I found in the front bumper back in the pits.

@@palerider6611 It didn’t hit me, just the kart. I was just exiting the hairpin, side by side with another kart and the pheasant ran out of the undergrowth in front of us both. He actually backed off a bit in surprise but there was nothing we could do to avoid it. When you’re racing its foot flat down, no margin for changing your line and this was not a point on the circuit to ease off or brake.

I hit a pheasant on the way to Darley Moor in 1984 in the days when I rode my bike to race meetings as I couldn't drive a car/van The scrutineer asked "what's that on your right boot?" I replied "pheasant shit. Why?......" He still let me race despite the state of my boots.

If I recall, they red-flagged the session and then had to find the deer who was crouched under a bush near turn 5. They managed to chase it off of the property and get it outside of the fence.

Through the chicane, that's about 90 mph and accelerating to about 120 before the left hand turn 12. So likely about 110 mph for the near miss with Bambi

Reminds me of a race at Summit Point. We saw a snake crossing the track on the warm-up lap. On the first lap of the race a corner worker was beating it with his flag.

How long ago was that, at Summit Point? I remember hearing that story, too years back. Had a friend I got on the track. He was so slow, people started calling him turtle. I had another buddy who got his friend to race up at Nelson Ledges. I lapped him twice during a sprint race. My buddy told me his friend had cancer and always wanted to go racing. He died shortly later, but he lived out one of his dreams.

Oh I saw it starting to cross the track, but what could I do? I didnt what to brake check and get hit from behind. Didnt want to swerve off of the track. So I just stayed on the gas and hope Bambi would be OK. They actually red-flagged that session and had to find the deer and get it out of the track area. My understanding is that the deer was fine.

@@palerider6611 broke 7 ribs and my scapula, blood in lungs and air outside of lungs. spent a week in the hospital in icu; getting better now though; i hope that other rider realized he was solely at fault - he apologized for "coming together" but not sure he understood he could have passed after turn 8 or turn 10; so, i'll revaluate tracking in the spring (the mrs. was not happy with the crash).....hope you're doing well

Sounds like that was the best way the other rider could express his mistake to you. In the gravel pit, I was really focused on getting things clear so I was surprised to see you.

@@palerider6611 well, it's good T talked to him. I did appreciate the gesture coming over to apologize, so that showed he did care. I think I launched after the front wheel bogged down and just hit my ribs and scapula outside of the back protector. I did well to not crash on contact, braked on pavement, then went into the gravel - but then I felt I had to start turning quickly in the gravel to avoid the grass and barrier.....wish my gopro was working so I could study better what happened. I do appreciate that it could have been worse, so counting my blessings!

I checked the bike afterwards because I was sure I was going to see a fur tuft or a leg, but no sign of impact. I think the grounds crew found it within the hour after they shut the track down and got the deer out of the area. My understanding was that it was unharmed by the bike. Don't know how but that's what I heard.
