Interesting vid, but your conclusions are wrong. Aluminium has ~1.5 times better heat conductivity than magnesium. We can easily see that heat distributes more evenly over the flashlight body in aluminum version and its head stays cooler. This is better for the flashlight's health. So, the only benefit to magnesium version is lesser weight. P.S. "Special editions" in Titanium are even worse in that regard; they work OK only if coupled with copper for heat dissipation (Eagtac models, for example)

Magnesium has around half the heat dissipation of aluminum and is a little bit weaker. They did however go with ZK61B alloy which has 120 W/mK and a tensile strength of 310 MPa which puts it on par with 6061-T6 aluminum which also has a tensile strength of 310 MPa but much better 167 W/mK heat dissipation.

So it's a choice between weight and heat dissipation.....
@timmturner
Жыл бұрын
@@SteelbluebrickNo it's either a sales gimmick or less expensive to produce, T6 aluminum has the same structural qualities as the magnesium alloy but T6 has better heat dissipation. In other words T6 aluminum is superior in this application. That small amount of weight savings isn't worth the hit to heat dissipation.

If you threw old VW engine block/mag wheels in a bonfire they would burn at a very high temperature. Then when water was introduced the flames would explode into a bright white fire. I'm not willing to find out what will happen in the small chance a lithium battery failure causes a fire, it is possible that it could ignite the Mg

Magnalite cookware is a magnesium aluminum alloy that has been around forever, car wheels have been made with magnesium aluminum alloys forever, canister style vacuum cleaners as well. It's totally safe, just stronger and more brittle than aluminum because of it.

They make mountain bike cranks out of magnesium alloys, they're not that popular in downhill or enduro though as they don't react well to rock strikes, more likely to crack. Unless you're planning to break rocks with it, it should be a good material for a flashlight.

I bought this one immediately, it’s a shame that it doesn’t come in a tint other than cw, but that is the max lumen output, so im not tripping. I often daily a warrior 3s and this light being 200 lumen more in a slightly smaller form factor is appealing, but since I daily a 511 rush12 backpack, I will have this as a backup light to my warrior 3s as it’s great and matches my pack and other accessories. The knife that stays in my pack is a hogue deka and all of the items are matching quite nicely. The knife im rocking in my pocket right now is a spyderco manix 2 with s110v and bronze scales. The fixed blade on my hip is a t.kell nightguard and the boot knife I have is the klotzli Swiss border guard. The multi tool today is a leatherman charge+ g10 and the lep light I have is a lumintop antman. My keyring is a trayvax talon with a keybar and a rovyvon a26. I shared my pocket dump because why not? Lol. I enjoy edc greatly and this light doesn’t disappoint.
