Filmed today.
Since today is Friday the 13th, a day where anything could go wrong (Yes I'm TOTALLY Superstitious LOL), on what many of us can agree has been the WORST year EVER (2020), I figured we should celebrate by riding the WORST Kind of Elevator Money Can Buy.... That's right! You guessed it! The KONE EcoDisc!!! And not just A KONE Ecodisc, but THREE of them!!!
As you guys know, I REALLY do NOT like KONE EcoDisc MRL Traction Elevators as I find their build quality to be very poor and very cheap feeling and I find them to be unreliable, they often have glitchy and buggy controllers, and I know of several that have already been modernized or replaced since installation already as a result of this.
Many people will argue that since KONE introduced the KSS 570 fixtures, their quality has improved. While I do think their quality may be SLIGHTLY better than the older KONEs, they're often still just mediocre to okay at best.
What most people can seem to agree on is the Older KONE Ecodiscs from the Late 2000s and Early 2010s with the KSS 370 & 500 fixtures are trash, and these right here in this video are Absolutely NO EXCEPTION to that!
I've come to this mall MANY times in my life since it opened in 2008, and most of the times I've come here, AT LEAST one of these three garage elevators has been broken!!! There have also been instances where TWO out of the THREE of them have been broken, and one where ALL THREE OF THEM were BROKEN!!!
Because this is an unlucky day within an unlucky year (that hopefully we'll never have again), I figured I'd get another take of these knowing anything could go wrong, especially since they're KONE and these ones especially are historically problematic.
Unfortunately/Fortunately (depending on your interpretation), these elevators mechanically were working just fine today, and all 3 of them were running!!!
That said though, the indicators are TOTALLY screwed up (On ALL 3 Elevators!!!) and suggest that these go up 3 FLOORS when reality is, they only go up TWO Floors!!! In addition, many of the buttons don't always respond to presses, and some don't respond at all as you see in the video, both of these are flaws that just show you how CRAPPY KONE Controllers are. In addition, the wall panels felt like Tin, and like they could come apart if I hit them hard enough.
Aside from the Hilariously Buggy Typical KONE Controllers and their overall build quality, these things actually were running pretty well mechanically (which I'm SURPRISED at given how crappy these used to run, plus the fact that these break so much, and according to a couple of other enthusiasts who've found this online, EcoDisc MRLs are designed to only last for 4-6 years, and these have lasted DOUBLE that!)!!! Hopefully that continues to last. Plus, these have the Infamous KONE "Rollercoaster" Brakes that I know many people love!
Really, aside from that and the Glass Doors, these are just your typical KONE EcoDisc Elevators. Boring and Crappy....
With that all being said, enjoy a Friday the 13th Ride on these LOVELY KONE EcoDiscs!!! (My least favorite kind of elevator)
Located at the Wiregrass Mall Parking Deck in Wesley Chapel, FL
Installed in 2008.
