Outside of Lake Erie the fishery that produces the most trophy smallmouth bass is the Great Miami River. The headwaters of the Great Miami Start near the town of Russels Point, Ohio in Indian Lake. Indian Lake has great populations of crappie, catfish, stocked saugeye and good populations of Largemouth bass. These fish trickle down the Great Miami River to boost the population of an already great smallmouth bass fishery. On the Great Miami River it's important to look for deep stretches of stable water that contain lots of rock. Streams like the Greenville and the Stillwater which flow into the Great Miami are incredible fisheries in their own right but, none of them produce fish as big as the ones on the great Miami. Cities that the Great Miami runs through include Hamilton, Middletown, Miamisburg, West Carrollton, Dayton, Piqua and Troy.
