I love watching videos like this really helps those who do not know what to do, but one tip, i will say, is leave the drain plug off and proceed with the oil filter once you loosen the filter there will be a good amount of oil that will drain helps to keep the new oil cleaner then when your done with the filter proceed to plug the drain plug then turn your car on for a good 30sec check for leaks and do you oil light.

Hey, thanks for using our tool! You had a good overview of how to use it as well... we were literally just talking about how we think that these oil filters should be a little tighter than hand-tight when you put them back on. As opposed to a canister style filter.... we're going to do some testing to try to verify this.

I've seen a ton of videos on this subject. The is one of the better ones. Torque on the oil filter assembly cap is only 18 ft.lbs. That's about half of what the engine drainplug is.

@@joshsmith2982 Most people care. At least those that change their own oil. That's the main reason to do it yourself, to make sure it's done right. I guess it's up to each individual to decide whether they care or not but like the video says if it's over-tightened it can be really difficult to get off. It CAN make a difference. People have broken either the wrench or the oil filter cap trying to get it off. No that's more than splitting hairs. m.kzitem.info/news/bejne/uKNjvIF_pIaoaaA

The oil filter tool *is* a type of socket. You can connect a breaker bar or a ratchet directly to it. No need for a huge 27mm socket.
@charlesbeeman

He says that in the video.
@MotorDetroit

Ya. but its 3/8" drive and not 1/2" drive. Most breaker bars are 1/2" drive. And I can tell you... whoever tightened mine last time left it so tight a small 3/8" ratchet isn't nearly large enough.
@stevensevek6151
4 жыл бұрын
That's not totally true. There is a chance that the oil filter cap tool could break if someone put the oil filter cap on with a 300 ft.lb. impact wrench and you try to remove it without the 27 mm socket. If it was put on correctly then you are right you shouldn't need the 27 mm socket. But better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. There are a number of photos demonstrating this problem when you read the reviews on Amazon for various brands of oil filter cap wrenches. Motivx is one of the better ones available and the one I have.

@@MotorDetroit I know this is old, but the same just happened to me. I tried with a small ratchet and there was no way it was coming off. Then I tried with my huge torque wrench and even with that it was difficult.

The oil filter should be removed first, because it takes much less time to drain all of the oil out of the filter housing, then it does to drain all of the oil out from the oil pan! I always allow at least one to two hours to drain the oil from the drain plug! This way I get much more of the old oil out then I could, if I only let it drain for say, fifteen minutes!
