You’re a brave man messing with Terrains from those years. They cured me of my families blind loyalty to GM. They didn’t need an oil change at 5km’s, they needed a complete refill.

Agree, did a service today on a Volkswagon, the owner brought it in by my sticker but it was way way far off by the computer. I have a customer with a Kia that had a replacement short block not long ago and its starting to make noise again, so some engines are just crap no matter how well you treat them, but doing regular oil changes certainly means you did all you could. I agree on intervals, 5-6 on regular, maybe 8 on synthetic, but who even knows with oils now - all synthetics are not equal - you can buy the Mobil "full synthetic" for the same price as conventional, and they all get dirty regardless, better safe than sorry. An oil change, especially a DIY one is still pretty cheap, and all one can do to get a lot of miles out of an engine.

I know a guy who had 3 Hyunda santa Fe's none made it to 140000km. Thats still waaaay better than GMC terrain from what I see here! Just get one Toyota. The End! Then you can spend the time on those awesome looking old pickups instead!

I have lots of vehicles sitting here with blown engines. The majority have the Dodge 3.6 engine in them. I have a 2023 Ram 1500 with the 3.6 and 45k miles on it with a rod sticking out of the block. Chrysler denied the warranty claim, which it has a 60k mile drivetrain warranty. They stated poor maintenance. Funny, it had all the oil changes done at the dealer till it hit 35k, then the owner started taking it to wally world. Service records for two oil changes, and chrysler denied the warranty. I have a 2015 Ram ecodiesel sitting here the dealer qouted $14k to replace the egr/cooler and def/exhaust system. Just crazy. Another wrangler 3.6 and today a '18 grand cherokee with 3.6 came in locked up at 95k miles. Two days ago I got in a Chrysler Pacifica with the 3.5, blown. I also have a 100k mile F350 with a locked up 6.7, '15 Chrysler 200 with a locked up engine, two '05/06 Jeeps with the beloved 4.0's locked up. Every one of them have the same thing in common. Lack of and poor quality maintenance. For those who don't know, the new 6.7 diesels do not run on Rotella 15w40. They take syn 10w30 or 5w40, not conv 15w40 which is what 99% of lube shops are using for them. I keep telling people to change their oil and use a good filter but it goes in one ear and out the other. I keep telling them to change it at 3500 miles and always get the "that's ridiculous" to change it that soon attitudes. My customers tell me it must be nice to be a mechanic and never have a broken down vehicle. I tell them I change my oil at 3k miles and prefill my oil filters. I also tell people timing sets are routine maintenance items. Everyone treats them as lifetime parts. I've been a mechanic over 40yrs and can't tell you how often I just shake my head at people. So much false/mis information out there. Big advertising, big businesses, pushing certified mechanics, all a big scheme to brainwash everyone. Change your oil.

Nothing wrong at all with mineral oil. The term has been changed to conventional to make it sound generic for people to pay for the fancy name synthetic.

lol they don't use oil because of the oil change interval. They use oil because they are cheaply built engines. You can change the oil in a Chevy every 1,000 miles and it will still fail at 100,000 miles. I have 200,000 miles on an engine that did all 10k mile oil changes and it has had zero major repairs....the difference is a quality built engine.

Same here on 10,000 mile oil changes with over 200,000 miles on the engines. 2010 G6 with 252,000 on my daily driver.

@@Olds_Pwr Exactly, if you have a quality built engine the 10k oil change intervals are fine. Oil technology has come a long way and many people use the 10k oil change as the scapegoat for problems that are simply not possibly caused by poor lubrication.
