That's how it was back then in Los Angeles in the late 70s, the bands Wall of Voodoo, The Surf Punks, The Weirdos, X, The Nip Drivers, The Suburban Lawns and The Tubes... people danced, pogo and slammed danced to it too. It was weird. There was no term called moshing back then. No sleeve tattoos or multiple body piercings back then. No cell phones recording the band or internet. You have to find a telephone pole with a punk flyer attached to it to see what bands are playing or listen to Kroq radio or read the LA Weekly. Almost everyone smoked cigarettes or pot inside the club too. All ages shows! Ha! And the police was outside waiting to fight anyone who starts. I remember recording a Circle Jerks gig with my tape recorder on casette tape! And having my friends listen to it at school break later on! Ah the good old days.

@@john_from_eastcoast. the days when slam dancing was almost friendly! Did you see how they helped that girl get on stage? I remember the change from the 80s to the 90s…from when ppl would slam and crowd surf and no one was really purposely trying to hurt anyone else…to the first time I saw a punch intentionally thrown just for the h*ll of it. I was…shocked. I’d seen violence directed at the club or say the chairs 🪑 lol but never at the band or the concert goers before. Even at an all ages CBGBs show. (A wild drunken brawl that happened to take place in the out is different) So yeah moshing was something different, and a lot of ppl don’t quite understand the difference. You intentionally slammed into ppl but the goal was not an elbow to the nose, even if some ppl were doing a version of the crawl with their arms. And…OB wasn’t pop but rather ska/punk/new wave. So slamming makes sense. They had incredible live shows with so much energy!

@@BrandonLovesTheMovies I got the first three albums when they originally came out. I was in 8th grade when Only A Lad came out and a sophomore when Good For Your Soul came out. Not to sound elitist but once Dead Man’s Party came out they mostly appealed to the jock crowd and I had moved on to death rock and cow punk stuff. Those first three and the 10” ep is there best stuff their final album was interesting but not many memorable tunes, however I did go to the final show at the Universal Amphitheater and I’m in a few shots in the concert video crowed surfing! I have a tiny piece of Elfman’s shirt. The f*cker looked right at me and tossed it. I cough it and a few dudes turned around and said “give me that” the next thing I’m on the floor with what felt like 20 dude on top of me for that shirt. So all I have is what was clenched in my hand 😂 it was a fun night we had seats all the way in the last row but I told my buddy were going in the pit and we did. I walked up to the bouncer and confidently said “do you mind if I go in there, it’s the last night, man?” He said “lift up your sleeve and pretend you’re showing me your bracelet.” And thats what I did 🤣
