A lot of Thunder fans are prisoners of the moment. For one, Tankathon had Topic 1st & No Ceilings 3rd, and that's after the injury. He is a better FT Shooter & Rim Finisher than Josh. But even if he's another Giddey why is that a bad thing? After the Pelicans series how many fans thought Giddey had zero value? I didn't want Giddey starting & I didn't want to give Giddey 25min/game but I never thought his value was less than a 12 pick in a bad draft. At worse Topic is a great trade piece.

It's a good pick and the OCK has time for Nikola Topic to heal. Chet Holmgren was out his first year and Nikola Topic could be the same way which is fine for OKC. When he is ready he can run the second team or play with SGA he is also good at driving the basket and they play off each other with Topic passing and SGA scoring.

We got what a lot of people view as the top player in the draft. Tankathon lists him at the top of their board. He is a Thunder style player once he gets back healthy. He is just 18. And we also got another 6'5 Thunder style player. Great Thunder draft. We got a steal on the level of MPJ or higher.

I'll back that up with 2 words... Reggie Jackson. And in that case, after Maynor tore up his knee, there was at least a need. Chet needs help inside. Period. And assuming Holmes has hit his ceiling is a crock. Every player that Rylan listed, Wiggins, Joe, Cason, Caruso, Dub, Shai, are all NBA tested. They all, except Caruso, contributed to last year's success, but going into the playoffs, who was the team we feared most going into the playoffs? The Lakers. Why? Their size. Holmes might have addressed part of that. Saying this team has no holes to fill because they won the west is a fools paradise. The Thunder were one brain fart by the Nuggets against the Spurs from being the 3rd seed. When you're in championship mode everything you do should be an attempt to push the needle forward. Perhaps Holmes only turned out to be a big option off the bench, but that's better than one small option after another. And this knee issue. If "these", multiple injuries were contact related I wouldn't be as concerned, but they weren't. Do we think an 18 year old's knees will get less brittle as he gets older? I just don't like the pick.

@@joeleelillbitt7715 Modern NBA bigs like Holmes don't just fall out of trees. When you need that type of player, the swing is taking Holmes who has improved every year with the high likelihood that a 21 year old has not hit their ceiling. That's controllable. Hoping and praying that there is a player good enough to justify the cost and assets it will require to attain him is not.

I think you are undervaluing how good of a prospect Topic is for the 12th pick in a draft class which was weak at the top, and it's not a matter of him either becoming a top 5 guy in this draft or being a bust. There are middle outcomes for him where it will still have been a good selection. If he only ends up being a solid or good back up point guard for the next decade, that's still a good outcome for the Thunder.

Topic will probably red shirt the entire season but he wont be bed bound that whole time. It will be like the Chet situation where he will be working on his shot, sitting in on training sessions, bulking up and then he will be able to slip right in next season. Looking at Dillon Jones, for me he kind of looks like he can be for J Dub, what Wiggins is for SGA. By that I mean he has a similar height, build and skillset and although there is a vast drop in quality between SGA and Wiggins, we can rely on him to step in for him from time to time and he holds his own more than enough. So if Jones can be that then I'll be happy.

Mr. Lock on Thunder host, there’s something called a trade which allows you to get an established big or a future FRP. You talked as though this were the no 30 pick where no one wants and so let’s get something no matter what. Ironically, Sam presti burnt 5 second round picks for the no. 26 pick. What you say for the no. 12 decision doesn’t add up. FYI, Chet as a BIG suffered a leg injury, which is very different from an ACL injury for a GUARD which requires a strong knee to make all the turns and twists. Pls name a PG who still has a meaningful career after blowing his knees. Just look at Ricky Rubio and you’ll know how big a blow of a torn ACL has on a PG who isn’t even relying on his speed. Mr. Host, let’s call a spade a spade: Sam presti has wasted a high FRP for a remote possibility of landing a PG who could get back to where he WAS before a serious injury. But because he’s landed some many FRPs over the years, you cannot openly fault him for this luxurious gamble.

it matters if it pans out, bro. come on. you just can't chuck picks because you have a million of them. a hurt player who is 18, who won't play for a year, is the wrong pick. it's bad process. holmes has as much upside on the Thunder as Topic does. except one guy can play game 1 and one guy can't. the time for projects in the late lottery has passed. the team isn't there anymore. sam must think this team just won 27 games last season, instead of 57.

Though I loved the Topic pick, I hate the Dillon Jones pick. I had Topic 4th & Jones 51st. Those five 2nd rd picks do have value. We are set up for a 20yr Spurs-like early 21st century Dynasty, so those picks matter. Baylor Scheirman rebounds & passes almost as well as Jones & is questionably the best pure shooter in Draft. Kevin McCullar, Tyler Smith, Quinten Post, Furphy & Cam Spencer were better 'swings'. The only way I can process this is if we traded five 2nd rd picks to get to pick 9 & took Topic there I would've still supported it.

Another horrible decision by Sam Presti to go along with getting rid of Giddey who clearly has a tremendous upside being only 21 and rapidly improving. Why in the hell would he draft another wing player especially when Filipowski from Duke was available and fits this team perfectly? They don't need more wing players they have tons of them already. After seeing the Dallas series it's clear that OKC needs a couple of solid bigs to help protect the rim, rebound and get some offensive boards. Somebody like Lively who they got rid of.
