Great video. Lived there 20 years, left 20 years ago and I still miss it. Now live in Western North Carolina. There is no way you can explain to someone what it is like there. Kinda good that people visit and think it is nothing special or ugly. It's the people. The nicest people I ever met in my life. I really miss the genuine kindness of Oklahoman's. So different from the east coast. If I wasn't so in love with large trees and humidity I would move back there tomorrow.

Sometimes they aren't hateful just critical. Saying nobody else wants to or is willing to do certain jobs except (Latino's, Guatemalans, etc etc.) which is FALSE for example. Those jobs are sometimes segregated especially in certain parts of the country, but are diverse overall. About 30% of Texas farm workers, mainly in CAFO'S, are white anglo for example, as are close to half of construction laborers and workers in most other hard construction Jobs in general. Yes Latino's are very overrepresented and in some places totally dominant, but they are hardly alone overall.

@@jKLa I don't think those comments I've seen making fun of his wife r simply "criticizing." And also, who cares if the dude says Guatemalans are hard working? Ur gonna throw a tantrum cuz ur not one of them and minorities are praised every once in a while? Gimme a break.
@jKLa

@@AngelRivera-de1lq no, I have seen the hateful and ugly comments and there is NO justification for them! I have in fact pushed back against some of those people myself! That's why I said SOME comments are just critical. I'm actually a big fan of Southern Life even if I sometimes criticize them. But I will also defend them against unjust attack which yes I have seen that here myself. However, no, I don't mind at all if he says Guatemalans are hard working. Guatemalans in the US ARE generally hard working people! That isn't the same as referring to nobody else wanting to do certain kinds of jobs. Saying certain groups are especially hard working or that they are MORE often willing to do certain kinds of work is one thing, as it is true!!! But overgeneralizing on this issue actually becomes insulting other hard working people by effectively denying their work ethic. This isn't minority vs white, as plenty of those hard working non immigrant Americans in labor intensive jobs are not "white" either. Of course other times more often this is said regarding Latinos as a whole or immigrants as a whole often casually by people who well KNOW it isn't actually true. It is something I WILL call out, as saying this is actually an insult however it may be unintended as such, to many people including myself!

@jKLa

@Dera Kioandria Williams ok yes that's technically true but In Texas today Anglo mostly just means Non Hispanic White person of European descent. Also I didn't say Caucasians are European. They are west Central Asian but you know what the common term means. They are very close relatives to Southeastern Europeans Anyhow. Southern Europeans tend to have a lot of ancestral Caucasian ancestry btw, from the Neolithic farmers. The Southern part of the Caucasus along with Anatolia (Now Turkey) is actually one of the main ancestral hearths of modern Day European populations: for example Greeks are far more closely related even to today's Turks then to say, Dutch, genetically speaking.

I grew up in a bad area in Del City, and was surprised by the lack of awareness and knowledge people had once I moved to the country. They had never been around the East side or the south side. They were surprised that I had been robbed multiple times, had my house attacked, and multiple grand theft auto attempts. I lived on the safe side of Del City too. Schools should show ppl what's going down in the slums so we can help ppl get out or be motivated to fix things. It's okay for ppl to stay safe, but it's also a good thing to explore other areas and raise awareness.
