there is no rabbit breed indigenous to Africa apart from what we call local breed...first domesticated rabbits were brought by Explorers and Missionaries. South Africa got the first high breed rabbits. In Uganda our first Rabbits were brought in by David Grant and Emin Pasha from Egypt in 1879 and remained in Bunyoro. While in 1889 the Missionaries came with rabbits in Buganda region that is why Rabbits have been kept in monestaries until in 80s when government brought the first high breed NewZealand rabbits from South Africa. Which ended in the farms of some Lecturers of Makerere

It is Angora breed not Angola of Africa...that is misleading................ This process was further credited in the 600 A.D. Papal Edict of Pope Gregory the Great that declared that the rabbit was no longer considered meat, but aquatic, and could be eaten during the 40 days of Lent. During the 6th century, the Trelicians realised that they could harvest rabbits’ wool, and that it was softer and warmer than that of a goat. This is when they started breeding Angora rabbits. ‘Angora’ is taken from the Trellician word for ‘not sharp’. English Angora Rabbit, Image via Wikipedia During the 1700s, English mariners had brought the first Angoras to the Bordeaux region of southern France. By 1780-1781, the Prussian government was offering prizes for Angora wool production. It became a major industry in France and a world leader in rabbit wool production.

Please sir, Always support a rabbits bottom and please tell people NEVER hold them by their ears, NEVER. Here in the United States and they are the third most adopt a pet here and in the United Kingdom. We have them as pets in our home and some of these videos I have watched it is extremely cruel handling of the rabbits some people were holding Roberts up to 30 minutes by the ears without supporting their bottoms. Rabbits have extremely fragile spine they are susceptible to heat stroke some rabbits were in cages on top of each other in Uganda videos I’ve been watching on you tube. Rabbits are susceptible to heat stroke some rabbits were sitting in the sun. Rabbits are not like dogs they cannot cool themselves off they called them selves off with their ears. Please spread the word it is horrific and disturbing to see people holding rabbits by the ears it is very painful to the rabbit. I have over 20 years of experience with rabbits except I don’t eat them I have them as pets I don’t eat any animals I am vegan and only vegetables and plant-based food. This is besides the point please if you can make it known to never hold rabbit by the ears I would even be Information on rabbits written by vets for free I can send you lots of information on proper handling correct diet. Rabbits must eat hay I just of system as well as their teeth. They need the fiber to trim down their teeth is their teeth can grow up to 5 inches per year and people do not know this. If the rabbit is dropping food out of its mouth most likely it’s dental related issues. I am sure many people would take care of the rabbits properly but they need to know proper care and many of the videos that I saw here in Uganda it is absolutely not proper care. There is even a man on a microphone and many of the videos I guess talking about the rabbits but he is very loud and rabbits have sensitive ears and sensitive spine the people in the background were holding Roberts by the ears without supporting their bottom for up to 30 minutes. Please spread correct information to UgandaThank you this is just a friendly advice
