I have the 4000. On my first one, the spool around the line clip almost instantly rusted up (two trips on the coast and not in surf), as did a few of the casing screws. Okuma replaced it without a quibble or a complaint and this second one's not missed a beat. I've used it on salt and fresh for surface fishing for 20lb carp and it's been a lot of fun. A year or so in and it's as crisp and as smooth as it was when it came out of the factory. Superb reels at any price, let alone the crazy value Okuma offer with it.

Thank you for the solid review, much appreciated! I am a die hard Okuma fan, especially of the Ceymar range, brilliant reels (freshwater) for an epic price. I never get the guys that slam the brand, been using them for years and have not had one fail on me and I tend to always go too lightweight setup for my target species. The C10 Ceymar that I have has landed me 40lb sharptooth catfish on a 5' UL rod and I still use it to this day. Got an LRF 6' rod for throwing lures, was looking for a reel to pair it with casting 1/32 oz hard baits. Definitely will go with an ITX! Great video!

I just bought the ITX 2500. it's my first Okuma reel, and I'm positively surprised. Very smooth and quiet. Although the rotor doesn't lock itself when you open the bail! It moves when you are casting. Anyone else annoyed by that, or it's just me? I wouldn't have bought this reel If I had been aware of this.

I use it for jigging. I too am baffled by the fact that it doesn't fail.. my penn gear did fail but this one doesn't. Also it is a solid reel. No movement on the shaft when reeling a big reef fish. And its small so my hands dont bump to my knees when kayak fishing. I have the 4000 series

I'm in Australia and have been watching the Tackle Tactics guys use these. I am usually a Shimano man and have recently been using their Nasci range of reels. But they are sold out so I have ordered this one for a 3-6KG spinning rod with 15lb Penn braid and I will most likely use 16lb Shimano Ocea F leader. Hoping to get some good flathead on this slightly heavier combo compared to my much lighter 1-3KG setup with 6lb braid and 8lb leader and a Shimano Ultegra 2500.

Okuma isn't a part of Zebco. They're a Taiwanese company with companies around the World like New Zealand, USA, Japan, Europe, etc. They were originally a milling company, and still is. To this day Okuma manufactures parts for other companies. Okuma is acknowledged as 1 of the 3 largest fishing companies in the World. Independent tester Alan Hawk currently rates the Makaira Spinning Reel as the best in the World above Shimano & Daiwa. I've been using Okuma for years & own 100's of pieces w/no problems. I own a lot of other rigs in storage so i've used a broad spectrum of gear from different companies. I have used a Daiwa Rod & discovered a design flaw that they acknowledged, and fixed the series. Also a flaw with a Shimano Reel that was also corrected. My friend on Kauai also found a major design flaw in a Fenwick Rod last year as well. All that doesn't mean they're bad companies. Every angler has a niche for fishing. Mr Taylor is giving his field review on the ITX. I don't judge other companies by a few products that fell apart on me. You as a consumer just have to weigh out everything you see out there & make the best decision for yourself.
