I had to show this to my nephew to PROVE that Blast copied Bayonne's roto-tom blindfold routine. Today's drumcorps kids don't realize the vast amount of talent that made DCI what it is today....No amplification, no "Pit", electronic keyboards, drumsets, or thirty two xylophone and marimba players hogging up the front line. Thanks Go2Thomas, My nephew had to pay for my DCI southwest ticket!

I'll let you guys in on something. I marched 82, 83 lead soprano line. I watched Dennis all summer long work the piss out of this drum line. Any little punk would have quit. When they won best drum line, they deserved it. They earned it. If you marched those years, I'll tell you who I am. I'm Vinnie, friend of peaches, and I was the one note slur in shaft (82)before the final push. Duet with Leo in rotating box (83). They blead for that title. I marched with a few of em in Bushwackers too.

I was there in Miami for the '83 DCI Championships. I fell in love with this corp. We even wore the Bridgeman style hats in our drumline. (high school). This solo just blew me away. NOBODY were like these guys...they pushed the envelope.

Are you deranged? I marched in 80 and 82 and Bridgemen took top drums both years. I remember Bridgemen selling copies of the "One tick" show at their souvie stand in 82. And that judge was Ron Goodheart, one of the ballbuster execution judges of all time. He didn't let squat get past him.

Billy Cobham from the Long Island Sunrisers was one of the outstanding drummers ever and our country. You can hear him playing in sing sing sing in 1964 oh, he was playing tenor drum in the Drumline. Long Island Sunrisers produced many top musicians, and drum corps Hall of Fame winners

This has got to be one of the best drum solos of all time. The single handed stick work is just phenomenal. I saw these guys live several times, and while the whole corps was always good, their drumline was the Neil Peart of DCI! What great memories!

Wow this brings back some great memories. I was a member of this drumline and man it was hot that night in Miami. Alot of great drummers have marched in the Bridgemen over the years:Clem Burke (Blondie), Pat Petrillo, Tommy Igoe, Eddie Drayton, Mark Teofilio, Pete Castellano, Jeff Prosperie, Ed Toth (Doobie Bros./Vertical Horizon) and many other talented dudes. Too many to list. Thanks for the comments guys. Special props to Bobby Thompson, Dennis DeLucia, Bob Dubinski & staff over the years.

Best Dam drum line ever...I know, I was there. Played lead soprano and watching them do laps playing certain parts of the show until it was perfect. Was something only the strong minded can endure and survive. Great job guys, I loved playing with you all, Vinnie.

Hey JessOnTheRun, What's with all the hostility? We're all in this together bro. As a matter of fact when we were on tour in 83', we were rehearsing before a show & members of the Blue Devils drumline came to watch us. We had an awesome relationship w/BD. The respect was mutual. As far as slamming Dennis DeLucia, do you even know the man? DeLucia was an innovator in modern Corps style drumming, not to mention a great guy to boot. Many lines "copy" his style as well as Hip Pickles & Blast.

Wow - two years in a row that the broadcast director totally missed the quad feature!! In ‘82, it cuts to a shot of flags waving; in ‘83, we watch the snares helpfully thumbing our attention over to the quads with a nifty visual, but we never even get a glance at the quads themselves...lol. WTF!

I caught 'em at a local show in Indy that year. At warm-ups, the other corps' drummers all looked like anyone's nice suburban kids. The Bridgemen, though, were terrifying: big, thuggish dudes with huge arms bulging out of their tees, tattoos, dark shades, concealed packs of Pall Malls... Then, they ran "Black Market Juggler". I honestly don't remember anything else about the contest after that, nor do any of the fellow kid drummers who went with me. We just kinda blacked out, in awe.

Just taking a look at the snareline...those are not some cats you want to cross the wrong way. A few very good friends of mine marched Bayonne in the late 60's and then in the 1980's and watching this very drum solo along with BD 1990 made me want to march corps in 1995. Absolute entertainment. Hearing the stories about the great Cavi/Bayonne throwdown in the 60's and Father Donovan make me wish I had marched back in those days!

My fav line to go watch in parking lot, and always the corps that had the best drugs....: ) did i just say that outloud! Eddie drayton is a bad mofo, as is Pat! If i woulda marched my age out year, i'd have gone to either bayone or SCV.

This was so awesome. The Bridgemen practiced (full day) at my high school for the local DCI competition that year. My h.s. drumline buddies and I sat for 3-4 hours, just 10 ft away, and watched this unbelievable production, over and over. In the shade in Charlotte, 90F with a coca-cola ICEE ... that's good stuff.
