I much prefer these old mechanical clocks to the battery ones.

what a wonderful bit of history! 1940s for sure but probably made it's way to Africa and was sold and presented as your plaque shows. Quite stunning. I love clocks, very special things

if you look at the movement it same time can tell you what year it made in and who made it

Was there a makers mark on it anywhere? The chime is really good. Sounds like it was fairly expensive in its day. Hope you find out something good about it, you never know.

Look more at the little piece of paper that it came with. It should say the company.
