Arising from the closure of the promenade and adjacent highway at Old Colwyn, National Cycle Route 5 has been diverted inland without due consideration of its unacceptable hazards. Access to an alternative, shorter, and more direct pathway route, used by cyclists for many years, has unecessarily been denied 'share with care' status. Many cyclists are choosing to use the path, with a measure of tension arising with a minority of other users finding justification for abuse in the Conwy Highways Dept uncompromising anti-pedalling signage. This video contains footage of a cyclist shortly after he was involved in an altercation with a dog walker aggressively employing a stick to halt his progress.
