Adam, when I clean up points I always finish by polishing them with a slip of oilstone, that gives a smooth surface with no micro high spots.

When you heat the grub screw up you also heat the housing it’s going into in turn making the housing and screw swell up with the heat, once the item cools down it loosens it’s always best to let cool down a little before trying to turn.

You should of run a tap through the thread to make sure the thread was clear and made sure it was clear of any debris in the thread hole but you are doing a great job.

I agree with others you do need a set of taps and dies, Adam. BSF and Whit full sets. CEI, (Cycle), I buy as I need them. Avoid Chinese rubbish, I go to Tracy Tools who do decent quality at a fair price. Get a thread guage as well!

There's always the temptation to wallop it more than it needs 😊 I really need a more sturdy bench as my vice is currently fitted to a chair ( for mobility and my shed is tiny and crammed with tools) I've counted 26 shelves of all sizes in me shed all made from free crap i collected over the years....

Fine grade grinding paste always comes in handy for easing clearance and other fits. Usually takes longer than filing but generally the finish is smoother, after the paste is cleaned out.

Having heated your grubscrew you've expanded it into the hole. Put the screw head in the vice and heat the part it screws into.

Spray it out with brake fluid, then some light grease. Re-tap it!

Am I right in thinking that the rotating shaft seals like a valve, and could have done with a quick go with valve grinding paste whilst you had it all apart? That said, the seating didn't look pitted to me.

I watched you fit the Mica washers top and bottom , should there not be a Mica tube type to isolate the ignitor from inside the casing body .

No, the size of the outer washers keep it away from the sides of the hole. It's a low tension spark, so it doesn't jump over.

You should not take on other people's jobs, when you have not got the tools or experience to do the job properly
