102 (in time 3:30 - 4:16) is Alois Hudec from Czechoslovakia, this is his Gold Medal Performance (9.8pt) on 11th August 1936 at Olympics in Berlin, it's not a slow motion, he hold all positions more then 2 times then necessary because it was his last exhibition and Nazi got lower marks to Slavic people, so he went there ready to show them something extraordinary... That's why Leni had to put it into the movie...

dorothy tai Especially rings, pommel, and parallel bars. I'd love to see the return of the one arm handstand on parallel bars! 102 on rings certainly doesn't look like what you would expect of a gymnastics routine from 80 years ago.

When I first saw this, I wondered if Riefenstahl had slowed the camera speed but in the rings routine, the people walking in the stands in the background seem to be walking at pretty much a normal speed. Very impressive rings routine. Back then, the strength positions were held for a longer period of time than now. Can't tell if 102 did a full butterfly to start the routine.

Well I'm usually called optimistic but for the sake of sports I have to say that the "progress" of skills in sports is more and more full of excess. The main problem is that the more top atlhetes are skilled, the less they have different styles, flaws and assetts, so with decades you feel more and more watching clones. Also, the daily life devotion, pressure and competition became unhealthy for atlhetes psychology in many sports. I guess it will sound even more inhuman in 70 years. The only cons I see is that as you said we can see amazing things and what our organism can do after tryharding something. I'd love proffessional sport become again healthy, blooming and balanced but I don't know how since it's industrialized like almost everything in this massive society. Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't stop watching pros to get less and less used to amazing skills then being able to enjoy amateur again. Amateur sports are full of surprise, more different styles between atlhetes, more different genetics. We can contemple there the versatility of humans, we're oftenly surprised by some atlhetes, we always can dream and expect the next one will be very different or amazing, sounds exciting and healthy :)

actually, it is not. #102 is Alois Hudec from czechoslovakia. Member of lower rase (at least for germans before WW2) and referees did everything to shorten his points in every other disciplines which he attended. So he held all the exercises (or figures or as its called) double time than says the rules

@Alvin_Vivian
2 жыл бұрын
So you're stronger if you move slower?
@Amadea27
2 жыл бұрын
@@Alvin_Vivian in most cases yes. Doing a trick in slow motion needs quite a lot more strength and balance, so not only the main muscle groups have to work harder but also the underlaying muscles. Just try a handstand press quickly and slowly and youll notice the difference.
