This song is a masterpiece. I went to the video to see if there were any of Kate's criticisms in the comments. Not a one. Guitar sloppiness? Stupid fills. No. These musicians are virtuosos of their instruments. Song created by top notch music producers, recorders and editors. No. No sloppiness. They don't go 13 years and then put any sloppy playing in. It's a masterpiece. I hope she matures into it and lightens up. Sorry, I prob write less than five critical comments a year, but this was necessary. Kyle was cool and listenable. Liked his positive energy. He made me feel welcome

Hey man, see my comment on your other comment. We’re deliberately leaning into snap judgment of music as two music educators; it was never meant to be a serious musical analysis platform, just a place to openly share (and collectively laugh about) exactly the comments you’re focusing on. Just because nobody in the comments is backing her up on her initial take of “sloppiness” doesn’t mean that’s not how she perceived it. That said, ^that doesn’t mean that years down the road OLK as a seasoned Tool fanatic might not look back and shake her head, either. But all of ^those things said, it doesn’t matter, cuz the show’s about listening to things I know I already love (probably creating the perception that I’m cooler or more welcoming than Kate) and reveling in these visceral, snap judgments from Kate. Again, is it for everyone? Clearly not. But is it fun as hell to film, edit and respond to the vast majority of comments? Most certainly.

It’s all right, Kate…. Time does not pass while you’re listening to TθθL. It is conceivable to achieve immortality by creating/playing a mix wherein there are no gaps between their songs.

Hahaha, Kate’s white-hot disagreement with flams existing in the world would be awe-inspiring if it weren’t so puzzling. Trust me, as a band director, I’ve tried and failed to explain the purpose of the rudiment more times than I can remember, haha

Cmon Kate! This song is clearly a masterpiece. It seems to be a general consensus, just read the comment section in the video. You don't have to like it but the recording is flawless. I suggest you throw your hate lists out the window and go into songs with positivity. I also suggest waiting a good long while before reacting To Rush. Lighren up on the hating things and you can be fun. Kyle is cool

My dude… I think you’re missing the point of this series. Just a friendly reminder that we’re playing up a schtick with the series; we might not fully explain it each episode, but I talk about it in the description. She’s got a plenty positive attitude, she just knows what she likes and what she doesn’t, and this is a platform where we provide space for the most immediate (if sometimes judgmental) responses to not only be shared but laughed over. Probably not for everyone, as far as reactions go, but selfishly, I’m having a blast finding out exactly what does and doesn’t pass the OLK test. Thanks for watching, maybe we’ll see you around again.

This why drummers hardly get any groupie love? Haha, damn you guitarists and your solos! Honestly, I wouldn't call it a drum solo. Tool and Danny use drumming to Carey the melody, not to keep time. The beat's going on in their brains. We can't hear it but have to feel it. Sort of like Lateralus during the verses? But tbf, when Danny gets loose, it does make for a long song. Then again they let Adam go on for a long spell in 7empest. Sort of the inverse of this song. I'm rambling and haven't finished the vid yet 😆

Hahaha, we welcome all comers to ramble about Tool here on the channel! Stay a while and listen (or talk, or both!), haha. I totally agree with the _feel_ of Danny’s playing, it really gets into your bones. It’s not like a Buddy Rich solo where it’s like “STOP EVERYTHING AND LISTEN TO ME” it’s just sometimes he’s grooving in the background, and other times in the foreground :)

I think the best way to view this song is like an opera. It tells a story (both in lyrics and in style of music) that is quite epic. The story is of an old warrior preparing to go into battle, reveling in the memory of past battles fought. The music (especially the part Kate didn't like) are the beginnings of the battle - full of chaos. Battles are a sloppy sort of thing. Eventually, this old warrior gets stabbed - he 'feels the sting' and as he dies he feels 'time bearing down' as his life slips away. Ponce de Leon's phantom is an allusion to the fountain of immortality... what comes after the sting and the ending of time. False hope perhaps, but the truth never got in my way. Worth a 2nd listen. With the full story in mind, the drums / guitar really fit.

Finished! How can anyone be offended by the OLK take? "We need to give Danny a job?" Would love, love, love to see OLK in Tool's rehearsal space and straighten them out! Either OLK or Tobais Fünke? Danny! Go sit in the corner and think about your flams! tbf again, I thought a jump to Invincible was pretty drastic too. The drumming is a LOT to digest. But I've been a wannabe drummer since middle school so very cool by me. And laughing with, not "at." You gotta keep us self-indulgent Tool fans in check for sure! Love the tease of Parabol/Parabola. Or to lean into Danny with the more succinct 46 & 2? Great reaction!

My dude, I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment, but I think you’ve missed the point of the series. We’re not only allowing but _encouraging_ absolute from the hip first impressions because we think it’s funny. We’re not taking anything too seriously. That said, as music educators we’ve both listened to things we’re not 100% in love with (short, long, and in between) and sometimes we find things we like, sometimes we endure, and other times… we have fun sharing our first, bluntest responses. It’s not a reaction series for everyone, but we love it.
