For the dad who donated toys, he is not the jerk. He gave instructions, the son didn't obey, he then warned the son about what would happen if he didn't obey, and when there still wasnt obedience, the son received the stated consequences. This is just called parenting.

Parenting in this situation needed communication between the parents. The decision to not have that discussion and instead donate all of their toys is an extreme reaction to a minor behavior issue with a 10 year old. You can parent and not be an asshole.

Story 4: I understand that kids need discipline (as the hundreds of videos of kids trashing Sephora stores and fighting their school teachers show), but the punishment has to fit the crime. Donating all your kid's toys is NOT an appropriate punishment for them not cleaning their room. The OP could've just hidden them until the kid cleaned the room. Extreme punishments should only be for extreme behavior (like joining one of those mobs of kids that rob stores).

He's a jerk that he thought getting rid of every toy the child had as appropriate consequence for not cleaning his room. There are so many other consequences that wouldn't permanently damage the relationship between father and son. That is what OP did by getting rid of the toys. I can guarantee that the lost of the toys has fully overshadowed the lesson the OP was trying to teach. It's likely that kid will never trust OP with his belongings ever again.
