I don't know if you've ever shot a super curve, but if you haven't, I'd suggest you give it a shot. And I especially recommend the Morrison Max 6s. I do believe you'll change your mind. PS. Use a good riser though. His Phoenix are super.

A forward riser seems to point to target faster and if you shoot moving wing animal , like dove flying really slow, 😆 lol it's easier.

I float back and forth with tabs and gloves, actually prefer a good thin glove with a decent hook. I shot a lot back in the 90s with everything. compounds...shot sights and release, one pin and release and shot totally instinctive. Loved shooting it all but my true love hase been the stick and string. I believe too many are over bowed and they shoot like it. Hunted all kinds of stuff as well as a ton of bowfishing. Have shot a lot of longbows and recurves and love them. Now am down to shooting lower poundage (old age and shoulders) and shooting a 45 # Kodiak Hunter and loving it. Carbon arrows with sharp cut on contact broadheads. Quiver on the bow, easier to get up trees plus all I have to grab is the bow. I can shoot straight fingers if need be and have done so many times. I too like a forgiving bow, I want it to be a joy to shoot and not a problem child. Bottom line, find what feels best and gets the best results for what you are trying to do. For every gain there is a loss, so true. Great video

Tim, I absolutely love your videos, and truly appreciate your wisdom. I am a younger archer making the switch from a compound into traditional archery, I honestly credit a big part of this decision to your videos and being such a successful provider and deer hunter to your family. Very motivational, is there anyway I can contact you directly to get advice and even more knowledge? Again thanks Tim please post more videos lol

Great video Tim! I agree on the GPI on arrows, I use GT 9.3 gpi... love 'em. How ever I just tried some AXIS trasditonal by Easton...nice arrow, smaller diameter shaft, 8.9 gpi... I'm sure the penetration would be great for hunting...but would not stump with these due to no collar on the insert ? Whats your take on these? Oh yeah, there pretty pricey too...
@timgolder2607

I love skinny arrows for hunting because of the penetration they give, but I am not a fan of outserts or the hidden inserts on the axis shafts. They are pricey and more often than not you have to buy collars or make your own with pieces of aluminum shafting. I found the Beeman Centershots to be a good trade off. Not quite as skinny as an axis and they use regular style inserts (aluminum or brass). I still make my own sleeve for the Centershots for my judo points and squirrel arrows just to help strengthen the tip.

Great info. One question. I know everything in trad archery is personal choice, but what’s your take on brass nocking points vs tie on. I personally use tie on and that seems to work best for me. Thanks for the videos.
@timgolder2607

I used brass nocks for years but they will tend to mar a glove or one of the cordovan style tabs over time. I prefer the tie on only because they are so easy to put on and take off or twist up and down the string while tuning. They are also much smoother on your face if you tend to have a tight anchor. When I've used brass in the past I always take a light file to they and smooth out any rough edges. Tie on nocks are also much lighter which is really neither here or there in the big picture but a pair of brass nocks does add weight. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video. I think you got one wrong. Heavier arrows makes a shorter gap not a longer one. But overall a great video. I like my titan 2 riser set up with shelf as well, even almost at the same distance to my hand as the arrow rest. They just feel more secure than an arrow rest for some reason even though I don’t know if that’s really true or not. How do you set up your shelf? Is it a match stick under the rug?
@allenshafer7666

Dan, in my experience (over 35 years bowhunting) heavier arrows drop more...causing larger gaps. Just think if you were a compound shooter.....shoot a 300 grain arrow at 340 fps. The distance between your 20 and 50 yard pins would be very small. Now shoot a 550 grain arrow out of that same bow. You will be hitting much, much lower at 50 yards (with the same sight pin setting) than you did with the 300 grain arrow. Same hold true with trad. bows (as long as you don't go too light on arrow weight, and the bow doesn't transfer as much energy to the arrow).

Hey Dan, I do know that a heavier arrow and a longer arrow will make for a closer point on distance. For my off the shelf setups I usually use high quality velcro (the fuzzy side). If I want to create a high spot I usually use a small piece of plastic I cut from a zip tie. On some of the bows like the Titan or the Lobo that are cut way past center furniture pads, that you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot, work very well and last quite a long time. The furniture pads are thicker and will allow you to bump out the shelf more than velcro would.

Thanks Tim for the answers. The plastic stick sounds good. I'll give them a try after the season. Do they ever move around just curious? Right now my shelf is an arched piece of lego that I stuck on the flag shelf that also raises the arrow to the same level as the plunger hole but it looks too high for a shelf. The arrow shoots great so I won't bother changing it right now but it definitely felt better (not necessarily more accurate, just felt like more engaging and in control) when I had the arrow closer to my hand.

The piece of zip tie sticks to the velcro and stays in place. What I've found gives me the best flight is the old Bear Weather rest. Watch my video on the Titan and I show how I cut it and place it right on the shelf. I ended up going back to that setup with my Lobo. I place velcro on the shelf and place the rest arm only a 1/16 of an inch off the velcro. That way I don't see any light between the shelf and the rest, which gives me the visual of the arrow being very close to being right on top of my hand. Good Luck!

I see very little difference. Most often you may have to go up on the nock point about 1/16 of an inch with three under.

Nice post....To me, hunting anything above the size of a rabbit with a bow, flat, recurve or compound is cruel...and so I don't care if your bow has a speed of 300 or more fps or 70~ draw weight, the arrow does not have enough kinetic energy to guarantee a clean kill unlike such as a 308 riffle round where the shock and cavitation alone will effect a clean kill.... lets see the doubters get shot through a lung or stomach with such a weapon and see how long you struggle for? My view is, if you can't buy it or can't afford it then by all means live off the land....if you are some high end dentist/doctor/lawyer/high paid CEO and have hard times making ends meet, shame on you...buy a bloody rifle!!! This high powered bow crap is all testosterone fed...shooting a 50#- 280fps plus bow does not make your winkle look bigger....get a grip. Tabs...hell, I can't get along with them...but then I haven't found a glove that I can either!

KB, I have had deer run farther after being shot in the heart w a 7mmRem Mag, than a double lung pass through with a broad head. So your argument is a little skewed.
@keithbaker3405
6 жыл бұрын
ctclimberguy34....... No, my "Debate" (not argument) isn't skewed at all. As you should be aware, excluding the deformation of a bullet upon impact it is the cavitation and the shock wave made by the round that provides the lethal damage that provides a clean kill, the deformation of the round increases the effect. It is a debatable topic that the 7mm rifle round although popular isn't the best choice for hunting as it is a relatively light high speed round and the only real reason for its popularity is that it has a relatively flat trajectory with less drop than a heavier and slower bullet. That aside, I do not believe that a heart shot didn't deliver a near instant kill...that round is capable of dropping a moose at 400 yards instantly. As I said, it isn't down to the organ being damaged by the actual round but the shock wave and cavitation that ruptures blood vessels and large scale organ damage that provides a clean kill. A broad head arrow does not have enough speed or energy to provide a instant kill in most cases and there is little shock wave damage and no cavitation. Just for your information, an arrow effecting "a double lung pass through" does not make for a clean kill..the brain can live for 5-6 minutes without oxygen and so even a stick (or arrow) through the heart or lungs will not provide a guaranteed clean kill. I might also add that I do not believe in hunting just for hunting sake...If you must hunt to provide food for the table, pelts for your living or to cull to balance the population that's valid....if you can afford or in the position to buy your food as does most of the civilized population, then not so much.

keith baker A 162 amax at 3000fps out of 7mag hits harder and has less wind drift and drop and more kinetic energy than a .308 at all ranges Obviously bows kill differently than guns both can be done quickly and effectively. all shot placement On a side note are you a flat earther
