It's definitely the hot and hip way to get into transformers. That's a weighty wedge of steel. It should be able to split the pins that hold them together.

Ian, after watching a Canadian video, I didn’t cut any of the copper, top or bottom, I simply used a screwdriver and pointed pliers to ease out the wax strips (just the internals) then the entire copper simply pulled out in 4 chunks (those connected to each other) my angle grinder looked well cheesed off 🤔 and better still, no mess or loss 😜
