The way I understand it, he fills a vital role in their society. Thinking about anyone working overtime going home late at night. No restaurants open that late, and if you're working overtime, cooking isnt a very appealing option. Then you hear that unmistakeable siren calling to you. What a hero.

Not to mention many Japanese people in the big cities don't even have a proper kitchen. Especially the overtime working single salaryman. Eating out is cheaper then cooking yourself except for instant ramen. I would take this man's ramen over a cup any day.

In Japan it's highly frowned upon to ask for things you know you can't pay for. It's something to do with saving face. Im sure he would but even the hungrier person probably wouldn't ask unless offered

This is the first time i watched what a genuine ramen looks like, after watching a lot of anime i wondered how a real ramen looks like and this man nailed it! and i love how clean and interesting the cart looks, even it has seperate sections for different food items its so cute and beautiful, after watching this it makes me go to japan and visit this man and buy some good ramen from him.... and the voice of the kid in the begining is so cutee!!!~

I visited Osaka during autumn last year with my parents and we tried to find a stall like this, but we weren't lucky 😢 seeing this precious ojiisan cooking ramen makes me want to fly back and look for his stall huhu

I remember when I was a kid around 7 or younger, I saw an episode from the anime Mojacko (1995) where there's an old dude who went great distances just to find the 'singing noodles' he ate once, it turns out it's just music from the noodle stall. Didn't know it's a real thing.

This is totally amazing and inspirational. People like to complain because they no job or they can't find anything, even though the odds might be against you you have to put up the effort and keep pushing. Look at this man... he is an example of how humbling any job can be, and even though the job u have now might not be your dream job but it can definitely be a stepping stone to what you really want. So just keep pushing, like he pushes that cart around to make his own money.

I feel his a century old song with portable rament store so humble and good. i can feel 1920s korea and japan although i was born in 1995 korea. nice posts. please keep posting us more like this with a century old song. i love it. the song brought me back to 1920s which i do not like to get myself back to but it feels good only with songs haha. i do love to stay in 2021 since its b etter with english spoken countries the little old cart out there is usually with poverty striken owners right? i would like to say cheers for him despite his old age. one thing concerning abt me was sanitary placed within the cart. seemingly , he had cut an egg for his client with his rough hands not cleaned. they feel pretty much insane in this covid pandemic

See those hands? Those are the witnesses of hard earned, blood sweat and tears, full hearted, passionate work serving food for society. Years and years of experience, tirelessly work when people is already at their home. That uncle-san is living proof of if you love your work, the love should and would reward you back, which so many of us are limited to due to modern day society (working 9-5, etc).

Kanji is literally composed of loaned Chinese characters, so it is actually normal to see Chinese characters in Japanese Kanji.

Im a ramen chef by trade who went to Japan to study from my home country, Korea. For six months I worked one of these old carts for an old gentleman who couldn't work anymore but wanted to keep his cart going for late night businessmen for a wage. Honestly, I much prefer these old carts or yatai compared to the bigger restraunts, let's me enjoy the night air and talk to my customers more. I hope that if I ever move to Japan to immigrate, perhaps I can buy thr cart of him and continue its legacy.

More comfortable, you can take more with you and dont have to pull that hugeass wooden cart everywhere. Its still cozy though and keeps you fit. Id probably prefer to eat as these little stalls than a foodtruck

No one would say the work is unhonorable, however the fact is that carry a whole business around is extremely tiresome compare to having a stationary place and let customer do the walking to your business. Poor guy even have to wear a mask during covid time which is really uncomfortable.
