Things I forgot to mention: both knives have a very similar felt weight in hand (SB Jr is 2oz and Bruin is 2.3oz). Also, they both fit in the Hitch and Timber Cadets slips!

I'm going to venture to say that the Case XX will either hold some value or possibly even increase in value over a long time period where I cannot say the same for the B&S 🤷♂️

Great side by side. My Bruin is put together very well with the exception you mention about the rough liners. But compared to Case's polished brass liners and shiney nickel silver backspring, it's grey stainless steel is just that, meh. However, it's sturdy lockback does inspire confidence. I would add that in addition to the lockback distinction you make (all other fit and finish being equal), Case offers quite a few bone handle color options too, even on their CS knives. And while very nice sawcut bone, the Bruin only comes in either chestnut or chestnut.

Great comparison . I never realized how strikingly close the Schrade #5 pattern was to the Sod Buster Jr. Now I’ve gotta get my collection out and put them side by side . 👍👍

Maybe I got lucky, but I picked up the USA-made Bruin today and I am impressed. Fit and finish is good, grind perfect, centered, and the knife came sharp. I understand they are made by Bear and Son, but it's nice to see an Old Timer that is similar to the one I had in the 70's. And it appears that they got the labelling correct on the packaging, as it being 1095 and not SS. But, yes, I would be concerned about the bone scales cracking if the knife were dropped, etc...

Hahaha I love knife guys… no thumb? No problem… I’ll use my index and middle finger. Only one finger? No problem, there’s a nail nick I can use. It’s funny because I’ve been there and a bum thumb can’t stop me playing with my knives 🤣 Good review, brother! 👊🏻

Nice comparison, the bruin I received had good fit and finish w/ an exception that a small portion of the bone is slightly flaking a tad bit, other than that I got a good one!!!

I have both of those knives now since my Old Timer arrived today. Mine came even better than Ericas because my liners were completely flush with the bone on the back of the knife. Only complaint is kinda a lazy back spring on the close, but excellent snap when opening and lock up with no blade play and completely centered. The Case same peach seed jig as yours but with (Carbon Steel) was decent with everything besides god awful gaps between the bone scales and brass liners on both sides. I mean bad and can see tons of light through. A shame cuz carbon blade was right down the middle too! So gonna keep the Bear & Son’s even though it was pricey and return the Sob Buster Jr. through Amazon. I have the big Case sod buster with etching on blade & black synthetic scales coming tomorrow. Hopefully the QC is good.

Man, that's disappointing to see Schrade get that kind of low quality from Bear. The fact that Case will fix mistakes makes them better, even tho their QC isn't perfect.

For me the Schade is a mess. No QC consistency poor QC The thing has no finish. Cant even get the damn bix right and they let that in the market. Its an insult especially being a U.S. product Chinese are laughing. For free Id pass. Good review.
