Thank you for the encouraging words. I'm 58 and I started top rope climbing 8 months ago. I needed to hear these words today.

I'm glad you found my video helpful... that's awesome that you also started climbing late in life... if you're still doing it 8 months on, you're clearly enjoying it - good job! Thanks for your support, I appreciate it a lot...

Love this rebrand! You’re so right that our inner monologue can control how we perform. I started climbing a little over a year ago. I was 36 and overweight. I almost pulled out of the course I signed up for multiple times because I was afraid about my fitness level and my body. I am so glad I pushed myself past those fears. I’ve made some great friends and a sense of community that I’ve never had before. All bodies are climber bodies!

If you hang out in any rope climbing wall, you will see a lot of "old" guys climb at a level I aspire towards. And if you hang you in any bouldering gym you feel old if your over 28 :P Congrats on your personal climbing journey, and other journeys beside.

I've committed to learning a lot of difficult skills/hobbies as an adult, and I consistently have seen that the number 1 determining factor of how far someone is able to progress at any given thing is primarily limited by how good they think they're capable of becoming one day. Henry Ford has always stuck with me - "Whether you think you can or you think you can't - you're right." If you truly believe and tell yourself that you have the capacity to get as good as a pro one day, you just might. But if you think you can never be as good as them then you definitely never will be.

That's really interesting, Matt... I took up archery a few years ago and my goal was to "enter a tournament and not come last". After six months I did just that. Then I looked at progression... could I be bothered to shoot the number of arrows I'd have to shoot to get better and maybe make a podium? No. Was I having fun anyway? Kinda, but not really. So I declared success and moved on. At the climbing wall I basically _know_ that I will _never_ climb the highest grades (my decline due to age will likely overtake any gains I make in terms of strength, technique and weight loss)... BUT I am having _so much fun_ doing it that I don't care. I love how we can constantly set a new goal... "climb a V1", "flash a V1", "climb a V2", "flash half of the V1s in the new circuit", "flash _all_ the V1s in the new circuit", "climb all the V2s".. "speedrun the V0s"... I love how there is a near constant supply of new goals available in climbing. (But with saying " _know_ I will _never_ ", I am _very_ willing to be surprised one day when I top a V8!)

I have to admit, that my first reaction to the channel was "lmao look fat old guy tries his best and he's funny about being fat and old". Never really paid too much attention, just once in a time quick check on how is my old fam doin on the wall. But with this vid - u bought me, as a person. Great insight into a ones soul, interesting view, and obviously - charming accent. Keep it up, great energy and i can't wait for more
