Another exceptional video, my friend! My mom had three different Cutlasses when I was a kid ('73, '77 and '86). She always wanted a 442, but never got one. Her '77 Brougham Coupe (Buckin Metallic, 403 V8, every option but t-tops and CB) was a great looking car. I've saw one or two 442s in that same color and I want one! IMO, the '86 442 was the best looking of the bunch. The '85 eggcrate grille and '87 aero headlights didn't look quite right, but the '86 was the sweet spot. Our '86 was just the standard Coupe, but it had the 307 V8. It was Medium Gray (with awful burgundy velour) but had the chrome rallye wheels (similar to 442, but without the gold accents) and raised-white-letter tires. It looked a little like the 442. Sadly, it only had the 140hp of the 307, while the 442 got the 170hp H/O version (and it needed every single hp it could get). It's hilarious that the 3.8L V6 or 260 V8 were ever offered in the 442. I'd also like to know who thought the Aeroback was a good idea and then decided to use it for the 442? They're so damn ugly. If they had been actual hatchbacks, it might have helped. My cousin had a '84 Hurst/Olds. The "lightning rod" shifters were very silly and they actually hurt performance. It was faster if you left it in D and let it do the work. Between the color scheme, stripes and rear wing spoiler, I always thought it took a clean looking design and made it tacky!

Thank you for the video. You did an excellent job. One correction you said Oldsmobile Calais when you had footage of the Ciera. I think you meant to say the split off the Cutlass Supreme and Cutlass Ciera. The footage was great. The images were great. The information was interesting. It was hard talking about the late 70's models I am sure. The part of the 80's and 90's was quite good. I was impressed you mentioned Achieva and explained the package. You mentioned Pontiac and Grand Am too. That Quad 4 was used in Chevrolet Beretta GTZ. I also enjoyed how you threw Buick Regal Grand National into the video during the 80's. GM fest indeed. I was sorry to hear the part one was not getting strong views. You do the videos for the passion of cars.

Kind of sad to see how far the 442 (and all of the malaise era cars) fell, but that's history as it happened and you can't cover a car model without covering them all. I did like the waterfall grill, even the upright one- very stylish for the time, as were the fancy factory wheels. I did see quite a few of these later 442's on the roads around here but they were gone from the 'stoplight races' and those who had good future vision were instead beginning to buy up the original muscle cars which could still be had at very reasonable prices- another era coming to an end. I don't recall any of the rarer ones around here. I really think that Olds could have done great had they made an over-the-top performance version, but I'm sure that GM's aged corporate board would have quashed the idea simply because Olds wasn't 'that' kind of car brand, and they weren't going to allow Olds to upstage Buick, Pontiac, and Chevy. There was still a small market segment who wanted performance and the 442 image would have been the perfect fit as the usual choices of Camaro and Mustang were not fast anymore. Olds had done that once before with their original "Rocket" OHV V-8 engine so the precedent was there, but the chance for greatness was lost, and Olds sadly faded away.
