if the car was a real stripped down bare bones car it could have no radio. The manufacturer would put a chrome designed flat plate over the empty area on the dash. The holes for the radio knobs were covered with small round chrome plates as well. This is the way may dads brand new 1955 plymouth was. It was probably the most bare bones option-less plymouth you could buy...no radio, no rugs (just black rubber mats), manual 3 on the collumn transmission, flat head 6 cylinder, terrible cloth seats

Friend on mine's dad had a '98 Starfire coupe black/red. Such a beautiful car I always admired. The friend's dad was tragically killed by his own gun - a deringer - he used when he traveled. The man bought the Chevrolet dealership in our small town of DeQuincy, LA and the gun went off before he could place it in his jacket pocket. The bullet pierced his liver and he later died in hospital from blood loss. Don't know what happened to that car.

The '62-'64 Oldsmobiles were all beautiful cars. The 1960 Olds (and Pontiac) were bland next to the Chevy, Buick and Cadillac that year. The '61 Olds was nice from the front end, and sides, but unfortunately was kind of ugly from the back. The '62 Olds was a knockout from every angle. I almost feel the 1961 Lincoln had an influence over the '63 styling which wasn't a bad thing as you can see from the ad.
@califdad4

yes the 62 98 is a beautiful car, and I also like the 1964 model too. The 63, I never thought looked like a Lincoln, ( 62 &63 Lincolns are my favorite car) but they used to say the 64 Buick Electra was very Lincolnesque , that Electra is also a Beautiful car
@bobpierce115
7 жыл бұрын
The Electra IS also a beautiful car and 'Lincolnesque' (love that word)! The '63 Olds doesn't look like a Lincoln; I said it had a Lincoln 'influence' (like the Buick) which I still stand by. I love the '61-'69 Lincolns a lot, with the '65 & '66 my most favorite. Those 2 years were amazing for Ford, Mercury and Lincoln across the board. It's sad that 50+ year old cars look more modern than the new ones, and were available in all those body styles. We've been living in a time where everything's been all over with (car design, music movies) for well over 20 years now and boring 4 doors, crossovers, trucks and SUV's are a mirror reflection of the permanent generic present. The only car magazines I get are for vintage cars. I couldn't even be bothered to look at a Motor Trend or Car & Driver issue on the 2017 models if you were to hand me the issues.
@califdad4

yes, I finally let my Motor Trend go, nothing in it that interested me anymore . Sometimes though, Automobile was OK I understood what you meant, the more I thought about it,on the 63 Olds 98, the white one I rode home from School in a lot, was a nice looking car, it replaced her ( my friends Moms light green 62 Olds 98 that I thought was really prettier than the white 63. A friend of theirs was trading in the 63 Olds on a new Lincoln in 64 and his Dad , a local Dentist, ran over there and turned in the 62 on it as he liked that car. Funny thing was another couple from our neighborhood, bought that 62 Olds from the Lincoln Dealer and drove it for years, liked it so well, they bought a new 69 or 70 Olds 98, but kept the 62 also
@bobpierce115

The two magazines I do subscribe to, and will continue to are Hemming's Collector Car (monthly) and the high end Collectible Automobile (bimonthly). I was looking at more pictures of the '62-'64 Olds online and love them all; especially the Starfires. I'd include the '65 model of it as well. I know everyone made/makes a fuss over the Toronado, but I like the Starfire better. The roofline is sexy, especially toward the back. Two other Oldsmobiles I'd love to have would be a '57 and '75 88 convertible(s). Sounds like a good pairing to me! I have nothing against exotic sports cars like Ferrari's etc., but living in L.A. they bore me. So do going to the annual new car shows. Uggghk. To see what?! Endless 4 door sedans, crossovers, trucks and SUV's? I said enough to the L.A. Auto Show back in 2002. I'll take a look at it online for a few minutes each year, but that's it. Do you get the feeling vehicles in the 2030's and 40's will be about as boring? Yeah? So do I, because everything that could be done in all areas HAS been done--decades ago. Look at that unwatchable nightmare version of Hawaii 5-0 that's been on for the last 6 years. It goes perfectly with the equally awful 'revived' fat pig Camaro that came out the year before ('09).

We had a 63 Olds 98 bought it new. 4 Dr HT. It was a really great car....EXCEPT What thecdealers didn't say and none of these reviews now tell you is that the GM Brass decided that after thev62vmodels they were going to raise the price and cut back where they could. And wherevthey could was they stopped the great 4vspeed transmission and substituted the horrible 2 speed power glide el cheapo tyranny. Which after you got the car you realized that you had been taken. And you week by week hated the trend more and more. And the only option you had was to put in the (Really excellent) Pontiac 4vspeed which was a min of $1200. Job at the time... So my father did that and it was a totally different and far better vehicle after that. Outside of the tyranny rip off, the cars' architecture was superlative and no one could were these cars out. They were, with proper care a 200,000 mile or more system! So my fa t her swapped the Trans and put in a modified control body which made the shifts far more positive and improved the shift points. And then... He went into the dealership and described the Trans swap and costs etc And then calmly said...."and because of what you smart guys did...my next two cars are going to be Chrysler 300's" and he got up without another word and left.
