Growing you in the late 70's and 80's my parents had a 73 Cutlass Supreme coupe. At the time the car never really did anything for me but now, with the personal luxury models of that time being my all time favorite segment, I have a new appreciation for these. Thanks for sharing this one, you just never see much on these early Cutlass Colonnades.

Parents had a ‘77 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham sedan in bronze with buckskin tan vinyl top. Interior had the “floating-pillow” crushed velour seats with a tasteful striped pattern. A.W.....thank you for showcasing your 1973 Cutlass 4-door. Nice to see a base version rather than a Supreme or Salon. The front header panel and grills on the base Cutlass looks so much better than the protruding Supreme front end. This car hits home for me. My mom bought one new, trading in a 68 Buick LeSabre sedan for a Chestnut Brown 73 Cutlass 4-door. She liked downsizing to the new intermediate and always said her 73 Cutlass was the most well built and best car she ever owned. As a teen, I always enjoyed flipping the air cleaner lid and taking her 73 Cutlass out on Summer nights looking for an occasional rolling race on the interstate (the Rocket 350 4-bbl was a slug off the line with 2:73 gears, but had great power from 45 mph up especially once the big Quadrajet secondaries kicked in). You are right, the bench seat was firm and comfortable. The center pillar of the 73 colonnade 4-doors were a nice GM styling touch adapted from the 71-72 Cadillac Fleetwoods. Looking forward to a future video and drive of your 73 Cutlass 4-door. Some production numbers: 35,578 base Cutlass 4-doors and 26,099 Supreme 4-doors. Sorry, don’t have numbers for the Salon. I was 8 years old when these cars debuted in the fall of 1972 and thought they resembled modernized versions of the 1959 B bodies. I really like the 76 and 77 versions with the square headlights. These Colonnade Cutlasses and their successor A and G bodies are a big reason why Oldsmobile sold a million cars per year numerous times in the 70's and 80's. But Oldsmobile sales, more than the other divisions, seemed to collapse when FWD became dominant, especially when the H body replaced the B body and the W body replaced the G body.

So many great memories of Oldsmobiles as a youth. A friend had a 74 Delta 88 4 door, and that poor car took the abuse. He claimed he quit changing the oil, you didn't need to he said. Finally after years of this the rear end locked up. The motor was pulled and placed in a 73 Cutlass Supreme that was a 455 car, but cracked engine block. He finally changed the oil (wow) on the 350, dropped it into the Cutlass and drove that car for several more years. It had the 400 Auto trans and a 3.23 Posi. This was my buddy's favorite car he says.

Adam, back in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, I had a ‘76 Cutlass Salon and a few years later, a ‘77 Cutlass Salon. I first saw the ‘76 on an Olds dealer used car lot and fell in love. It was a gold color with a matching full vinyl top, not the half top which was popular. It had these big upholstered reclining buckets that were wonderful but one drawback was that there was no tilt wheel. Im 6’2” and I had to squish my way in. It was a beauty, though. My ‘77 was a dark green with a tan interior. It had a tilt wheel and the new style Astro reclining buckets which weren’t as comfy. It also had a half top. Oldsmobile was at the top of their game back then. I loved both of those cars.

Compound-curvature side glass, particularly noticeable on the front doors, felt rather exotic for a volume midsize at the time. A 1975 Supreme sedan was my first "small" car after a string of C-bodies, but it was so solid and well executed as to be without sacrifice. Perhaps a bit less quiet and with a less strong HVAC blower (but still good cooling capacity), it was nevertheless a fantastic car that I kept longer than usual, before landing back in my full-size comfort zone.

Those look like newer wheel covers on the '73. After his 1970 LTD, my Dad got ticked off at Ford and bought a '75 Cutlass. The dash looked the same, except ours had a clock there under the lights and wipers switches. The '76 and '77 had their clocks in the center of the dash, and a block-off under those switches. Our Cutlass was light sky blue Supreme two door, with a dark blue landau top and velour interior. One of the rolling leisure suits of the mid '70s... Nothing ever went wrong with that car in four years! The All-New 1972 "Colonnade" A-body cars were delayed due to running changes, and went on sale for the 1973 model year. As a result we never got to see the "clean bumper" front end styling for all the GM mid-sized cars. The 1973 Cutlass Supreme Coupe quickly became America's sweetheart, outselling all the other A-bodies cars. It sure made walking to school fun trying to keep up with the new Cutlass Supremes on the roads and parked in driveways. Yep, two of my teachers bought 1973 Cutlass Coupes - it was a big hit for Oldsmobile.

What a great surprise to see this first thing in the morning! My second car was a 73 Cutlass base coupe which I had in high school. I also had a 73 442 with the 455 and I currently own a 73 Cutlass S. Distinctive styling and drove beautifully. 73 sedans are hard to find in good condition these days. I would love to find a 73 Salon (4-door only that year) with 15" tires and wheels, comfy reclining bucket seats and console. Those models are practically extinct.

what I can say about Olds is my grandfather had a '55 88, he drove it daily until '72, it was never garaged and this was New Jersey where salt was used liberally in the winter months and surprise it never had ANY rust, the paint was faded and hazy, the chrome pitted but no rust. my parents had a '72 88 for 10 years, also never garaged and guess what? never any rust. I wonder if others had a similar experience with Olds? also, never any mechanical problems, just regular maintenance.

This was the one Cutlass generation that I really wanted to dive into when it first came out. I learned to drive on one of them eventually!

I had a yellow 1973 Olds Cutlass sedan back in the early 90's. Great daily driver.

I had to laugh at your very Michigan pronunciation of the word “asphalt” (ASH-phalt!). I’m out of Ohio but had to arrange and project manage a number of bank parking lot resurfacing and repairs and had never heard that pronunciation before! 😉 I bought a new ‘73 Malibu SS on the same platform as your Cutlass. It was a great handling and riding car. Drove “smaller” than it was. Great previews… looking forward to the full reviews. 👍👍👍 ~John

My friend's first car was his Dad's old 1973 Laguna sedan in a metallic copper/gold colour. Loved the front and rear end treatment, but really HATED four door cars back then. Have mellowed a bit since those days, and now any car from that era makes me smile...

Did they make four door Lagunas? I know Pontiac made four door Grand Ams in the mid '70s.

@@DanEBoyd Don't know if that was a Canadian thing only or not. His was most definitely a four door with a vinyl roof and lots of rust around the rear wheels...

Very nice. My grand aunt had a 1976 Cutlass Supreme 2 door hardtop. I remember the day she bought it, at that time I thought it was the most luxurious cars ever compared to my dad's old 72 Gran Torino. It had all the bells and whistles power door locks "Tempatic Air Condition" which was a rare option at the time. Hope you'll have one in any of your future videos.

Oh I love these 4 door Colonnades! Where do you keep finding these rare cars? One of these days you're probably going to have a super rare Chevelle Laguna sedan!
