@@zGrego What I have heard is Samsung didn't need to add a curve like the original G9 because it's an OLED and you get far better viewing angles. If the original G9 didn't have such a curve, it would look washed out slightly on the left and right because of the viewing angle being less with a LED backlit display. Makes sense but I still miss it. I do find myself leaning towards the monitor to view things on the left and right because they're further away from my eyes.

The OLED is so superior - and there's a reason why it's not 1000R. It's versatile for non-gaming views. Also, if you're not far enough (or the right distance) from the 1000R monitor you'll have to turn your head which gets annoying when not gaming.

I've been debating a full two weeks about the Neo vs the OLED and am pretty settled on the Neo. I mainly do web browsing and work (Outlook/Teams) with some gaming on my current monitors and the risk of burn-in is just too high for me to justify the OLED at this point, especially considering RTINGS latest video showing the risk of severe burn-in with 16:9 content after only 700 hours. Granted, OLED looks absolutely incredible and is actually cheaper than the Neo for black friday, both of which are the only things really holding me up on a solid decision, but hopefully OLED or newer tech will have solved or mitigated burn in more by the time I'm ready for another monitor purchase in 5+ years.

I had both monitors. The NEO is the way to go if your gonna be doing stock trading, coding, or productivity. OLED is better for pretty much everything else. After having the oled for a couple days I sent it back. Yea the black levels and contrast are better but the Neo is still no slouch. As long as you sit center of the monitor which I'm sure everyone will that has one, the washed out look will never be an issue. I just couldn't get over the bad text even after trying to improve it through windows. Also, bright HDR scenes look much better on the Neo due to its mini led. If you have a Neo I would say skip the oled and wait for the 57 inch version in September with the higher resolution which I think is a bigger upgrade. For newcomers, the oled will be fine as long as you can get past the text and lower HDR brightness. Enjoy which ever you choose

@socialreport2836 I can see your perspective. Playing old games like Half-Life 2 or Read Dead 1 would rip on dual 4k, it's just that I find it hard to justify spending around 8k AUD on a system that can barely play the latest games on native without RT. In my opinion, the 57-inch monitor is simply a product ahead of its time, an oddity of sorts that is good for a type of gaming experience which isn't appealing to the majority of people. The speed of today's hardware is at fault; for standard 4k screen, I'd only recommend three GPUs that currently exist: RTX 4090, 4080/4080S, and AMD's 7900 XTX. Doubling the amount of pixels is definitely pushing your luck.

In home cinema I fullyagree. For allround monitors, not so much. The full screen brightness, auto Brightness limiter, for QD-OLED the text clarity and ofc the looming risk of burn in just doesn`t make it the first choice for productivity usage imho. As an allrounder you don`t ever have to babysit, Mini-LED is better.

@@Grammostola I never had too babysit any of my oled once. Burn in is such a thing in the past. I have owned 2 oled monitors as well as 7 oleds tvs in my life. All used for gaming mainly and 83” for movies. You hear about these burn in story mainly from extreme testing or usage to push the limit of these panels from sites like rtings and such. As well cases where people leave their tv on for 24/7 on cnn and wonder why this happens. As for brightness, 1000nit to 1400nit (depending on tv/panel) specular highlight on 2% windows and 260/460 nit sdr/hdr respectively on normal window is plenty bright. Unless you sit in direct sunlit room there should be no issues. I even find myself turning down the brightness on some of these oleds. Also with the contrast ratio and perfect black, I find the brightness is plenty. The only thing I can truly agree on is the text clarity on these qd-oled., but it’s not a dealbreaker for me.

I didn't even want to mess with the issue even if I could prevent it from happening for years. I also have a very lit environment for my work, and the ClearType text looks better on the Neo. Now with the local dimming on the Neo it has a good black level not as good as OLED but passible to me. The OLED looked better and if I was doing graphical work, I may have opted for that instead. The brightness argument is silly to me, I've been flashbanged by this thing in a normal lit room opening my browser. Only thing I don't like about these two monitors is the UI. Some settings turn off others and they rarely say why. Like why can't I have the built in dynamic eye protection filter while using Game Mode? Why can't I use the 10 band equalizer with game mode turned on but can with it off? Yes a PC can provide a remedy for both of those complaints easily but my point very much still stands. there's no denying that the OLED has better blacks, but there is no way you have the local dimming setting on high on the Neo if you're complaining about grey side bars. The ~2k dimming zones on the Neo do an excellent job, especially for content with sidebars, where the sides are completely black, since the backlight in that area is just off. For me, personally, the Neo is better, because I do more productivity than anything else, and having clearer text, without worry of burn in was the way to go. As for curvature; I don't think it matters much for productivity, since peripheral vision isn't important - you'll have to look to the side either way. It's beneficial for the Neo to overcome the poor viewing angles, but since OLED doesn't have that problem, you don't need the more extreme curvature. Oh, and I couldn't agree more regarding the stand. The one on the Neo sucks!
@socialreport2836

So, apparently, this occurs due to the angle of videofilming and lighting. Lord Civick confirmed that he used the local dimming on "high".
@NeutralGenericUser

@@socialreport2836 The angle won't matter, as the backlight in those areas would be off. I'm watching a video right now with black bars, and the black bars are 100% black (no backlight). You will not be able to make them look grey no matter which angle. If you have the monitor, try it yourself.

@@NeutralGenericUser Yes, they appear black when you look at them with your own eyes. I remember that. I can't verify it right now as I'm on vacation :). Have you tried filming it? It could be due to the camcorder and the angle of filming/lighting.

@LordCivickOG Personally I am planning to use the OLED G9 as a 2 monitor setup (Currently I have 2 x 4k monitors running at the cost of decreased FPS). Diablo4 for example will not use the full 5.120 x 1.440 Pixel anyway so I would use one half of the screen, i.e. 2.560 x 1.440 for playing and the other half for browsing etc. a) is that even possible with the OLED G9? b) Would I feed the OLED g9 with 2 signals/cables (DP and HDMI) for that or should I use any built in or additional software/mode for that purpose with only one input cable? Thanks a lot, Chris

I wonder how the Neo G9 is calibrated in this video. I don't own the OLED G9 but I do own the Nintendo Switch OLED and an LG OLED TV. I like OLED but I also think most OLEDs are not bright enough when compared to Mini LED. This is easily noticed when watching anime etc. The Neo G9 does get very bright when calibrated right and with HDR Dynamic enabled. Enabling that picture mode will allow for deeper blacks and more brightness. But it does need to be calibrated because the default setting is a little bit oversaturated. A good comparison for how bright the Neo G9 gets is Ahsoka - Episode 5 when she wearing her white garments while talking to the space whale. The sky behind her is white and with the Neo G9 it looks gorgeous when compared watching the same episode on an OLED TV.

The game will render at 5120x1440 if the game supports it otherwise the next closest resolution you can usually step down to is 1440p. Used to be sparse support for the super ultrawide displays but that has been changing more and more games support it natively these days.

ive also tried both besides oled being better it still cant reack 4k just 1440 maybe a bit higher. neo comes full 4k baby stil 120 and 240 fps for gaming so i jus... the colors are better on a oled always but it can be oled all it wants my steamdeck is oled and somehow the 1280x800 pixels are almost as small as the 4k pixels on my ole pg27uq by asus which was best compared to this... also you black point should be 0 for oled? it is on my 57 inch g9 and goes to 1000 nits brightness which are both needed for true full hdr so i feel like the oled needs to go from 0 to 1000 nits even the steamdeck is 0-1000 nits... jus was confused but good color makes anything look better but the overall 4k and... i have a 350 dollar monitor color calibrator which got my 57 inch popping asf... now if they'd have made this 57 inch and kept it the same but added oled is only way it coulda been better and eventually itll all come together... its personal preference. also for games that wont go full screen its jus cuz the devs haven't taken the time to add it in the game you could in 3 min download a file online, move it to that games folder on steam and boom works 4k fullscreen no stretching jus adds extra picture you normally cant see, i love it. i jus did it for black myth wukong that im playing now the sides stayed black would not go full. fixed it in 3 min from someone online cuz its easy to do sometimes devs to lazy and doing other stuff and they havent had to make many 4k or any 4k 1000 nit hdr 57 inch monitors.... i think more games will start to come with it when they release as more ppl have these monitors and monitors come like it. when they dont some hero from the games community usually does the devs work for them and you can easily fix it and have it working as you would want. you right tho those colors... but i did buy a spyder x2 ultra to calibrate my screen hada get the expensive one cuz it can go to 2000 nit the others stopped at 750 which isnt even hdr level. i got my colors closer than i thought but man it made all i had wrong pop out amazing, skin going from more pale to alive... colors more saturated and popped... but i was surprised i did decent on my own haha... my friends pc i sold him a old build and my asus 27 inch 4k pg27uq and itd never been on tht pc before even so when i calibrated his it made it so much better its... insane how bad it was an i didnt notice then again i didnt play anything before jus after it does have things you can see before and after shots of tho. great video jus was waiting on the 4k and curved together at least 1000 nits so long its why i had a pg27uq and a 38 inch ultrawide tht was jus shy of 4k at 3840x1600 and i could see the difference and the hdr was only 800 was lil to low so i could never truly choose the perfect one none were... now one has finally combined them together lol. nice review keep it up i got some stuff coming soon to ill give you a subscription and ring the bell help ya grow some.

4K movies are often around 3840x1600, while the G9 Neo has a resolution of 5120x1440, which means it lacks around 160 pixels vertically. This won't make a significant difference when compared to native 4K resolution, without any upscaling and this technique will work or not, I don't know. The difference will only be noticeable when watching TV series, but it's not as substantial as you might believe.
@x3merx3mer

@@socialreport2836 what? 4k movies are 2160p. On a regular (16:9) 4k monitor, you might get 1600p since movies are 21:9 so you get black bars, but on G9 32:9 you would get a full glory of it.

I wish it had more height like my 1600p ultra wide but the pure blacks of the OLED have me in a headlock. 😂 I think for the review you should cover some FPS games that don’t support the 32:9 aspect ratio as nicely as 21:9 just so everyone has idea of the compromise there (for example, Call of Duty) and your take. With that being said, do you plan on keeping the Asus 360hz 1440p alongside the OLED?

HDMI 2.1 has a bigger bandwidth than DP 1.4 so it can support higher refresh rates and so on... especially if you want HDR10. On HDR (10 bit) your are stuck at 5120x1440 and 100Hz since there is not enough bandwidth to go above (unless you do compressed HDR in 8bits, but that is not true HDR).
