I watched a lot of OEL in Arizona and he was one of the best d-men in the league in his early twenties. Then he had a couple knee injuries and lost the burst on his skating. This led to him getting beat in transition and on the rush far too often. He's still useful, as he proved last year, and if the plan is for him to play third pair and quarterback PP2, he'll probably do just fine. But if he's asked to do much more than that I think the Leafs will be regretting this contract.

It's possible that Treliving has some inside knowledge about anti-aging research that will deliver results in the next couple of years or he's doing the thing that GMs do in signing deals that will probably be someone else's problem. Florida brought OEL in as a stop gap player to cover for injuries on the blueline and they found that if they kept him as a depth guy he could contribute. For what Florida needed he was great on a short term deal. For what the Leafs need, not so much. Tanev is a great signing, until he gets injured doing what he does best, playing the game harder than his body or just about any body can take. Then he's done and you have a huge hole in your blueline or he comes back swathed in bandages like the mummy and plays like a shell of the man he was until he heals from his latest horrific injury.
@stefanlidbergengstrom2416

OEL is still a good defenceman with offensive upside. His style of play isn't typically wildly deterioting in the early-mid 30's. However, he proved to not fit at the slightest with Vancouver, even when Tochett took over the coaching job. If he fits with Torotonto, which I guess time will tell, it's a good signing of a guy with real leadership qualities. If not, I'm sure someone will take over a Stanley Cup champion for a late pick.

Yeah, the limited NTC stinks, but trade protection pushes down AAV in many negotiations. It's gonna be really interesting to see if he plays out his contract in Toronto, gets LTIRetired, or is a piece of a salary floor circumvention trade one day to a cellar dweller with picks attached to jettison him out.

A bit overpaid for both D men but very good adds if it wins you a Stanly Cup then it was great adds I still dont think it was enough but the D core is better however only time will tell

Holy fuck bud. Every video is the gambling ad. I’d rather the Saudi sponsor at this point.

When I heard this news, I was like "Soooooooo, we getting the cup?" Ekman-Larsson is a name I've heard of, which means he must be good, considering he just won a cup!

Yikes…..these deals for the leafs are terrible IMO. Might provide some bounce to start. Year 1 specifically. But year two? I think this is going to backfire big time. Bizarre decisions happening in Toronto right now.

OEl is cheap and hell be IR for the last year or two. He ate 20 minutes in Florida. He is Torontos 2nd best defense man now after Tanev. For less than 4 million? Not bad man. Just gotta trade Marner now and youll win 1 more round of playoffs

"BUH-Cuz". Everytime I hear Steve say "because" in any video. Now, you will all hear it as well. You're welcome

The point at the end about the NMC/NTC's is kinda weak. It would make sense if the Leafs were getting any type of AAV benefit but who out there was offering those same terms to Tanev (didn't even hear a whiff of speculation that he could get 6 years until the Leafs acquired his rights) or OEL (3.5 is more than a fair number for him)? Seems like you're reaching to back up your point about wanting to move off the core 4.

If Marner pops off during this years playoffs because we have D who can actually play D and not force our Forwards to play D for all but 10 seconds per shift and D who can get pucks to the net once in the O Zone and not force the Forwards to do it all at BOTH ends of the ice I want to see a HUGE apology video from you and everyone else who doubted him and failed to see the root cause of the problem.. if the forwards are spending all there energy trying to help the D get out of our Zone how much energy do you think is left in the tank to drive offense?! It's not like other teams who have actual defensemen who can retrieve the puck, win battles and get the puck out quickly.. our guys were hemmed in ALL the time, trying to fish pucks out for well over 1min at a time... if you think it's easy go give it a try, I bet 99.9% of you would barely make back to the bench let alone make to the O Zone and still be able to apply pressure after fighting to get the puck out of your zone for over 1min sometimes over 2mins.
