I don't think there was a good outcome to Olivia going to Joshua's grave or not going. If she had gone, there would have been a problem with Kim. If she didn't go, Ethan was mad. Just a toxic situation all around for Olivia

Seems like the whole family has been socialized to have conditional love. Olivia is not wanted unless she's their dancing monkey.

Kim is really manipulative. Olivia didn’t know Joshua her being there or should only matter to her husband. Everyone else made that entire situation about Olivia instead of Joshua. Ethan is a big example of why non confrontational people aren’t liked as much all he had to do was voice his opinion before hand. Olivia never asked Moriah to choose between her or her parents. that was all Olivia. This family has done nothing but use her

God, Olivia being so misrepresented by the rest of the family is so upsetting because I relate to it so much.

Do you think it was that Olivia was “ignoring” the pain relating to Joshua’s death or that she didn’t know about it? Cause we know how much Ethan hates talking about feelings so is it possible she didn’t know how much he was impacted by it.

Right! That’s been the most frustrating thing about the show. They never communicate and the expectations of Olivia to be a mind reader is crazy

I think this show is a great example of the various ways people deal with a repressive, sheltered, and toxic upbringing. Moriah, and Ethan realize it’s a hard world out there and fall back to what they know. Olivia tries (and sometimes fails) to keep growing and engaging with what she thinks is healthy for her.

Yeah the fact that while neither of them were employed, they also refused to do housework is insane to me, not to mention Ethan buying several vehicles just cuz he wanted them. I’m glad Olivia got out, I hope she keeps growing. I guess I’m happy for the Plath kids too if that’s the kind of life they wanna live

I haven’t watched the show. It seems like Olivia is very self contained, so perhaps viewers don’t understand her hurt or why she needed to set boundaries with Kim.

i just found your channel yesterday and i just want to say i find it very refreshing. it’s not clickbaity just the truth and if you misspeak i notice you taking accountability in your comment section which is really nice to see. a lot of creators won’t do that. more subscribers come with more haters so just know, your content is good and you’re doing something right!

I actually have some insight into the "if I have to choose, I'm going to make the person who didn't make me choose" comment due to a personal situation of my own -- I was perhaps more aggressive than I should have been when setting boundaries with people who hurt someone I care for and made it clear I wasn't comfortable with said person being around. Mutual friends of both myself and the person I set boundaries with "sided with" the person who caused the hurt to begin with because they were more open to "letting things go" and things "going back to normal" and I was the person "causing issues." It's about caring more for the person who hurt others than the hurt that they caused or the people that they hurt.

Forgiveness is separate from reconciling. You can forgive and choose not to reconcile. You can move on instead and wish each other well.

I believe what the fraise " I'm choosing the one that's not making me choose ." Olivia don't want to be around Kim but won't provide a way for grace. Kim on the other hand is willing to move on. Olivia is trying to criticize Kim style of child raising to Kim's children. Olivia has NO children so why should Kim listen to her completely toss Kim out of her own family. Olivia is just as selfish as Kim

Look, I agree it seems like all these boundaries are about Olivia and the Plath kids don’t get much wiggle room around her so I can totally see why they abandoned her at the end of the show. This however doesn’t make Olivia a bad person, she had set boundaries that she was not going to compromise on, and although I personally think that effective communication and relationship requires give and take if Olivia’s set in her boundaries the best that could’ve happened in her situation was for the Plath kids to listen to every one of her boundaries and stick to them or she leaves and finds another man to be with that doesn’t have this much family drama.

Moriah said that if Olivia is making her choose between Olivia and Kim, she is going to choose Kim, because Kim is not the one forcing her to choose. I don't like Kim, but I can understand Moriah here, I have the same principle. The more I watch, the more it looks to me like Olivia has her part of the blame. Ok, she doesn't want to see her MIL, but she wants people to take sides and doesn't consider that this is their mother. Like, I could stay away from these gatherings to avoid my MIL, but I couldn't ask my spouse to ditch his parents because I don't get along with them. Putting that kind of pressure on your spouse is a recipe for divorce, and here we are.

i think moriah meant that if olivia is making her choose between her and kim then she would choose kim because at the end of the day kim never made moriah pick between her and olivia. moriah is given the space by kim to make that choice herself which i can understand. i really do feel bad for olivia because i don’t think she meant to make moriah choose between herself and kim. i think olivia was just so wrapped up in her own trauma response (that kim’s presence was responsible for) that she couldn’t even fathom anyone else’s emotions in that moment. i have absolutely been there before and it’s such an awful feeling. but i can also totally understand moriah because if that’s how she felt the situation was presented to her…i would also choose to be with the person who wasn’t giving me any percieved ultimatum in that situation.

neither of them are right or wrong in this situation it’s just so complicated on all sides and i can really see how everyone got to their respective points of views. it’s just a shame that no one was in a place to be able to communicate any of this to each other.

Olivia should have chiiilllleeeeed out with this one and put differences aside. Ofcourse he wanted her at his brothers grave, that’s his wife. Normally I’m on Olivia’s side but not this time. She should have been there comforting him.
