As much as we can question the value of f4 on m43, there is no denying the optical quality of this lens. Comparing it against the Fuji 16-80, this lens blows that away in terms of sharpness, particularly in the corners at wide angles. This lens is remarkable in it's corner sharpness at all apertures and a focal lengths Olympus knows the strengths and weaknesses if their system and they design their lenses accordingly.

Some retailers in the UK are offering this lens for 815 GBP. As regards other lenses, would be very interested in a review of the newish Olympus x2 teleconverter (for the 40-150mm F2.8 and the 300mm).

Love your channel. In the old days Olympus had a lens lineup akin to Nikon - somewhere in the dark recesses of my loft I have an original Olympus book which if I find it might make its way onto Ebay. It is a joyous and wondrous look back on a Camera Co which in its heyday was a serious rival for the enthusiasts and amateurs want for 'something different which wasn't a Leica. Even further into the dark recesses of my mind there I recall that the cameras were terribly unreliable when compared to the Nikon/Canon/Minolta equivalents. The later electronic cameras were always 'active' and ran down the batteries in what seemed like minutes. Zuiko lenses had a special magic, and whilst I am sure they still are; what lets these systems down today is Olympus still believing that 20m or so 'effective' pixels is good enough when the competition knows otherwise. Price point aside, their market appears to be 'sports' - but I have never seen a 'sports' photographer choose this system over Canon/Nikon where pixels really do actually matter as much as FPS. Which is a shame as I expect the lenses are capable of resolving at least 50m+ of them. C'mon Olympus get with the 'Program' - Olympus aficionados will understand what I did there!!!

Man I remember that catalog too. I also remember drooling over the Olympus lens lineup in the camera store, they had those gorgeous prints of the lineup that I could only look at. I had a 50mm Zuiko (still do) for my OM-10 and that was it, the others were cheap Pentax and something else I have since lost.

You haven't tried their Hi Rez mode, then? Noise is gone with this feature, even at high iso's. Handheld 50megapixel files, tripod 80megapixel files.

Great review. I'm a bit late here, but maybe it would be interesting to see the Olympus 17mm 1.8 pancake paired with your GX80 for street and travel.

Bit too contrasty for my liking, maybe because I'm used to the quality of Fujifilm?

It comes down to editing. Interestingly, Oly has very powerfull in camera jpg processing. You can apply s-curves and color profiles of any fashion to the images.
