Being the best in stabilization is commendable. But it's not something I would value to justify the price increase. There's not much improvement over the previous generation.

I don’t see how users of a Mark II Will get this one, unless their camera breaks. Not really a reason for a OLYMPUS to push this next model out as the only necessary upgrade would’ve been in the mega pixel area.

As I do like to use a 10 stop ND, is the live ND filter mode in this camera a true replacement for stills photography?
@BandH
4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, not for your usage compared to the strength of the filter you currently own. If you often use a 10-stop neutral density filter, then the built-in Live ND filter would not be adequate for your usage needs. The strongest built-in ND filter is a ND32, which would be a 5-stop neutral density filter. You would need another 5- or 6-stop neutral density filter to use in combination with the built-in Live ND filter to achieve the same results as you get with your current ND1024 10-stop neutral density filter. -+- Manzell L -+-

@@BandH Many thanks for your reply. Good to have that cleared up, pity, that function would have clinched it for me. So now I am only seeing eye auto and hand held HR as extras over my EM5 mk2 and EM1. I do notice that if I use the HR function on my EM5 mk2 the image altho clearer tends to come out quite noisy, wonder if they solved that issue with the EM1 mk3?

Well I’m interested. Better focusing in videos. Better eye detect (I never use this but I might now). Custom modes that you can tweak and the tweaks get remembered. My menu (finally, yes!) Independently set focus points for portrait/landscape orientation. Choose your own focus point areas. Live nd filters. Starry AF. B setting on the mode dial for quicker access to live composite etc. I’m not so sure about the menu button repositioning. I’ve also now got used to not having a joystick. Better noise management than previously. I think there is a lot to like.

@@Aviciiz v-log L is fully compatible with v-log, you just lose the upper range of exposure (you will clip at 80IRE). You just need to watch your scopes as you shoot, but the whole point behind v-log L is that, if exposed correctly, it can cut well with full v-log.
Hi B&H, I’ve been at your superstore many times and I wonder why you don’t not hire a photographer who knows how to use a camera properly? What’s worth remembering of this review is the nice background music. I found the rest confusing, disorganized and poor information wise. Please take it as a constructive criticism. All the best.

I had high hopes for this to be the GH6 (a kind of improved GH5 with good autofocus) but it dosen't even match the almost 3 years old GH5 in video. I have the m50 and 90D and I was interested in GH5 - GH6 or EM1 III (because of GHX like capabilities + autofocus + small lenses) but am switching to fuji. I am buying the XT4 and I will probably add an XT3 too.

Why would this be a GH6? That's stupid. Two different camera companies. Olympus has never concentrated on video.
@MohamedKeita

@@jamalpeoples3736 Yep, stupid I know, Fuji also never focused on video ... until XT2 then XT3 then XT4 and it is kinda working for them. There is also a market to grab among m4/3 shooters (easier to grab than people whoo want Full Frame) and a lot of people are disapointed by Panasonic's unwillingness to implement phase detect autofocus. It might be stupid but a m4/3 with excellent IBIS, great video capabilities and phase detect autofocus could steal a lot of people from Panasonic who have no problem with m4/3. Just saying...

@@MohamedKeita no its working for them. They saw 20 percent sales growth last year. It sounds nice until see that it was all from their instant cameras. @@TL-xw6fh that will always be the case. That however is not how people think. It's all Bokeh, I need more pixels, and fps. It's like these youtube guys that have Red cameras and only film for youtube and do no other work or the person who takes photos but will never print a photo in their life so why do you need this. I suppose there might be a time when I'd like to be able to charge the battery in camera via USB, but what I'd REALLY like to do is actually power the camera via USB. That could be very useful when doing long time-lapse videos. I've tried long time-lapses with a GH5 and E-M1 Mk II and in both cases I had to stop, replace the battery, then resume shooting. That's not practical for shooting an overnight storm, for example.

An ND filter built into the sensor !? Someone please explain.
@BandH
4 жыл бұрын
The built in ND filter on the sensor basically helps simulate the effects of a ND filter placed on the camera, where you may have blurred subject movement. It would composite a group of exposures to give you a single image that replicates one taken at a slower shutter speed. One might use this for moving water for example.

Who is this camera for ? When you have $1800 to spend on a camera, don't you prefer to choose a Z6 or a S1 ? And if you love video, don't you prefer a Panasonic GH5 in M4/3 format ? In short, good luck Olympus to make money with this camera witch nobody will remember the name.
