K3 has been a seven year project to create and redefine state of the art for vinyl playback. We wanted to set a new mark for the turntable, forming an international collaboration with the world's top experts in direct drive turntable design, motor control, and tonearm technology.
CORRECTION
From Richard Krebs the designer of K3 and the Atlas clamp:
'The reflex clamp with a washer under the record has been around for quite some time.
I bought a primitive one in London in the 80s and have been building my own since the 90s. The Atlas Clamp is the accumulation of the knowledge gained from many previous builds, as such it is a very advanced design. The icing on the cake being the sand oil internal gallery.
It is also where I conformed to my ears that rubber has no place touching a record. Previous experience with the coloration of vacuum hold downs raised suspicions. One of my clamp designs had a rubber circumference that touched the record. It had the same coloration.
So no to vac hold downs and no to rubber touching the record.'
This is the second video, more will be coming, including a big one at OK Foundry (big shout out to Jamie and crew in Richmond for all their incredible work!), one covering the power supply, platter hold down system, Schröder tonearm, and more.
