World famous Omak Stamped Suicide Race, I first saw it on the Wonderful World of Disney back in the late 60,s - I think the show was called Run Appaloosa Run.
It's really hilarious that people aren't even worried about the humans getting hurt they're worried about the horses😂 my great grandfather would ride the suicide race every year and he always loved the rush

The Disney movie Run Apaloosa Run protrayed the Vale Oregon suicide race, quite similar but different. the hill isnt nearly as steep as Omak. We had an appy foal that was considered to play the part of the "foal" in that movie.

@SuperFriskit ....... THENN if they make it through allll that they still have an uphill sprint to the finish line. many of the horses cant get enough oxygen after making this uphill sprint which causes muscle failure and permanent damage to their bodys leaving them crippled for life... and what to know whats so terrible about it?
@robinelske

@SuperFriskit The horses dont just run down a hill and then swim... this is a CLIFF that these horses are forced to gallop at full speed down, many lose their footing and end up ROLLING down the hill breaking necks and slamming into other horses causing collisions, then they have to gallop through the river that has a very rocky and slippery bottom, that causes them to slip and fall, possibly drowning or getting trampled by the other horses trying to wade their way through

All the people in the comments saying this is bad it's really not, this is tradition and has been going on for years. I live here and if you guy's don't like it then keep your mouth shut because me and YOU know that you would never come to Omak and say that to a Natives face. I would beat somebody for sayin that you guy's are lucky your hiding behind your little computer screen.

@robinelske Running down a hill and crossing a river? How is that sick exactly? Horses love running, and they love swimming, and they love being ridden. They're athletes, just as much as the riders are.

@kelliefan1017 Five foot maybe not but little jumps ; in the wild they jump over if its in the way. Horses love jumping and the risk of injury isn't high. Dressage, its what they did in war. (For the Lipizzaner stallions) Cow cutting is kinda useless now but it was to separate cows for branding a long time ago. Obviously anything horse is dangerous, yeah anything can happen but the risk isn't that high.In the race why dont they make the hill less steep and making further apart from the water?

So the risk of a horse tripping over a fence and crashing isn't a high risk? What about the horse at the Rolex a few years ago that crashed and was put down? A horse landing wrong coming off of the jump and snapping an ankle isn't a risk? A horse summer saulting over a XC jump isn't a risk? There are JUST as many risks in jumping as in this race. And they still do cut cows and calves when branding. And dressage is so not done in the wild. And these horse LOVE to do this also!

Its nice how you people dis on something you know nothing about...These horses are trained year round for this event, and to prove it is safe for them to do it, they have to do a practice run earlier in the day without a rider on them. it used to be vey dangerous i admit, but it is now very safe due to the year round training

@kelliefan1017 No the risk is not high for those sports. You see horses fall a lot at the starting races of the suicide race that I've watched on the computer, when I go to a jumping/dressage show theirs never a horse that falls.Yeah I do know that they still cut cows for branding, no animal dies. HAAHAAHAAH and I never said dressage was done in the wild. I said the Lipizzaner stallions did it in the war. They were trained to do those amazing stunts, and I never saw a horse hurt himself in it .

@94Daffodil Spurring a horse doesn't hurt them. It takes quite a bit for a human to hurt a horse with ANYTHING, much less their bare feet. Besides, hardly any horses get hurt in this. Did you see a single horse in this video have the injuries you're describing? No. They run down a hill, and swim across a river. I'd say the horses are having fun doing this. They're responding and doing great at their job. Lay off.

@knightsnumber22 and 2 u... i did a 23 page research report on this so i do know EVERYTHING about it and yes these horses might be trained 2 do this and yes their are practice runs and new safety rules but that still doesnt make it right! Thoroughbreds are forced 2 compete in this race, they have the most delicate legs out of almost every horse out there, putting that much weight on them at those high speeds is very dangerous for them and the riders, 21 horses have died in the last 20 yrs

@lyndakbt I didn't see a single horse hurt here. Not to mention, it's just as dangerous for the horse as it is for the person. However, it's not like running down a steep hill is bad for them. Anyone can take a tumble down a steep hill. They'll be fine. Horses love running, and they love swimming. You should be stopped -- Period. You're just being ignorant right now.

@MegaMusicman34 For one, you can't spell barbaric right. Two, these are horses that are trained to do this. Three, those are some broad generalizations you're making about these people. Not all of them are American, they all care for their animals, in fact they love them, and it's you who should feel ashamed.

Okay then let me get this straight you think this is funny and awesome to watch right wrong do you know what kind of pain horses are in when they're in this race no you don't because you're not the one carrying a lot of weight on your back and putting all your weight on your two front legs and on top of that going down a very steep hill most of the horses bump into each other and hurt their legs and when you're cheering the people on I think of this how many hors in 1 race not to mention the go

@TheNativestylez I don't understand how you can compare this to sitting on a swing or riding a bike. I don't risk harm to another while sitting on a swing, or riding a bike. I don't intentionally risk the life of myself or another living creature for my own selfish enjoyment. Where is your pride & dignity? These horses are only well kept to exploit them. This sounds a lot like the behavior Indians accuse White men of... abusing what they care not of, and justifying it by their own rules.

That was exceptionally lame.... I'd rather watch curling at the winter Olympics. Still, if people enjoy this I don't see the harm at all... If the horse dies, it was just stupid and it's its own fault. Kinda like Eric Clapton's kid that fell out the window. Besides... 21 horses isn't even a lot... Hot n' Now kills more horses than that in a month for their burgers.

cruelty is you eating mas predused chicken do u see how they are raised I bet you eat beef too. I bet a lot of people here have never even ridden a horse in there life. we raise 200 head of wild horses and they come flying off of steeper hills then this in there normal life. You watch hard enough you can see that the horses are amped to do there thing. the horse is one with the rider. bin raising horses since I was a little boy and seen many of my horses run the mountains it's normal. to all the riders out there ride hard boys and may the horses spirit protect you. Native Pride gota love it.

Geraldine Tom I am not no vegan but I agree with u, these horses are tough af and were made to handle worst case scenario's, my great grandfather used to ride in this race and his horse had full trust with him and he had full trust with his horse, they are trained to go into these type of things and learn to handle it, it is not animal cruelty it is A native culture my great grandfather would ride this race every single year and would make it out alive him in his horse were never injured and always came out fine even though the risks in this race are very high and it is also called the suicide race for reason it is culture and it is a celebration it is not animal cruelty and it's not like we're taking these horses down one by one and they're going to go extinct🙄
