I drove through the mountains in Wales once, and the fog got so bad i had no choice but to pull over and wait, I could see about 20ft all around me and nothing else - and this played on my stereo - one of the most amazingly moving moments of my life.

Sometimes when I listen to the OMD 'Greatest Hits' album, I wonder why I stuck with them for so long. Then I play the early albums and hear this sort of track, and it all becomes clear again. I bought this album for Electricity, but this track is just magnificent. Musicians at the height of their powers, writing for the pleasure of making music. Inspired!! And yes, as someone said earlier, this goes way past Kraftwerk.

Kraftwerk was an influence, but at the end of the day, OMD`s music is varied, melodies, slightly punky, others ballads, very different from Kraftwerk. I *think* Messerschmitt Twins isn't two pilots. I *think* it's twin engined aeroplanes, like the BF110, much like a V-twin is a kind of bike named after its engine. But as the father of two sets of twin boys, it's a wonderfully evocative and enigmatic title for my favourite song on their first album. Loved this thing since it came out. Only listed as being played once in all their setlisted gigs. Not sure why.

"According to keyboardist Paul Humphreys, the primary influences on the record were Brian Eno, Neu! and Kraftwerk." But if you were making electric music in the late 70s,you couldn't help but be influenced by Kraftwerk. People always make the mistake to think that when a synthesizer sounds like it ought to sound, it has something to do with Kraftwerk. But a synthesizer programmed in this way has hardly anything to do with Kraftwerk, if Kraftwerk were telling this the wprld, it was a marketing trick of Kraftwerk. A well programmed synthesizer sounds like a synthesizer and Kraftwerk were not the only ones in the 70s who played/programmed synthesizers. If you have never programmed/played a synthsizer you can of course not know that. It's a machine, not a guitar or real keyboard instrument. Kraftwerk were secretly mocked for this marketing trick by quite some electronic musicians here in Germany because it is pure nonsense to argue like that, trust me. Kraftwerk did not invent the synthesizer nor the way it sounds when it has been properly programmed.
