Coronavirus Latest: As Omicron sweeps the nation scientists fear we might have to adopt more stringent restrictions over Christmas.
The Sun talked exclusively to virologist at the University of Nottingham, Professor Jonathan Ball, who is optimistic the vaccines will give us protection.
Six days have passed since Omicron, the new Covid variant named after the 15th letter of the Greek alphabet, was declared on the loose in Britain.
Extra measures were brought in this week to tackle the spread of Omicron.
Anyone who has contact with someone infected with the new variant must quarantine at home for 10 days, with flouters risking a £10,000 fine.
The government also reintroduced the mandatory use of masks on public transport and in shops.
The Government’s strategy to tackle Omicron is a huge booster campaign to give people maximum immunity this winter.
