In the first days of July, I trekked out to Reading, PA to ride the second of four Iron Horse Rambles scheduled for 2022. This was the first mainline steam excursion I have ever ridden, with a round-trip length of 120 miles. This excursion was absolutely fantastic and I would recommend the Reading & Northern Railroad to anyone looking to experience what rail travel is really like. The restoration work on Reading 2102 and the passenger consist is undeniably first class, and the entire railroad and facilities are kept in beautiful shape. The trip itself departed from R&N's Reading Outer Station to their Jim Thorpe Station, with a stop at Port Clinton in between. The return trip included the same stop to let those who boarded at Port Clinton to deboard. The approximately four hour layover at Jim Thorpe was absolutely beautiful, and what a wonderful, gorgeous little town with great shops and foot traffic. Many thanks to Andy Muller Jr. (owner of the R&N) and all of his crews for putting on a first class operation on a first class railroad.
